What are you talking about? Louisiana is a poverty state and minimum wage has been the same rate since 2009. The government hasn't given them a raise in 15 years

The last proposal was to raise it to $10. Not all people are too lazy to go get a job, I mean somebody has to flip the burgers that this fat country consumes non stop. Sometimes that's about as much as a person can physically do or learn to do, and $10 won't get you anything today, much less $7.25.

Least economically aware (and most predictable) response possible.

When labor costs go up as a result of an increased minimum wage, the cost of goods sold also goes up, thus reducing the buying power of those minimum wage workers.
Further, the MW increase hurts poor and middle class Americans most.
Big corporations can afford to a higher degree an increase in costs because they are often bolstered by public money (stock market) and significantly higher volumes. SMBs rely solely on their mom and pop shop to provide for their families. An increase in costs takes food directly off the table. Plus, the food and goods most affected by MW increases are those most consumed by the poor!!
This is a political play bent on false appeasement and a class warfare play designed to widen the wealth gap

You mean they can't find people who want to work FOR THAT WAGE .

The price of EVERYTHING else has gone up by leaps and bounds. Why do you think the value of a man's labor shouldn't rise to match that. I'm having the same fight with my employer right now and will make a move if they don't increase my compensation. It's unfair and they've lied and pulled the rug out and said they were coming and then moved the goalposts too many times.

The American worker is getting fricked most of all in this economy and these bloated corporations have the gall to blame us.

Increased productivity has come from technology, not labor.

Employers will simply invest in more tech and less labor.

Employers purchase less labor when the price increases.

Local community college set up a deal for the trades. Free schooling and guaranteed 15-20 hours per week in the career you are in. Get all your training as a plumber etc

50 slots available.

2 people showed fir free training and a good hourly wage while doing the grunt work.

Sure, if you have an actual physical or mental disability. That doesn't describe 99% of workers I've seen in fast food places for example

The issue, in my eyes, is what those jobs are for.

I grew up working in fast food until college. The only adults were managers and sometimes line workers who were in between jobs. Nowadays you have people trying to support a family of 5 in those same jobs.

Minimum wage was never intended to be a liveable wage.

Is $15/hr (~$30k/yr) a living wage now? You can't afford to live on $30k a year, especially if you have a family. Minimum wage is, what, less than $20k/yr?

All those Walmart employees who aren't making shite or are forced into being part-time employees....who do you think pays for those folks? Your tax dollars are going toward healthcare, welfare, food stamps for gainfully employed people, all the while Walmart's shareholders and executives are pocketing more money than we can imagine.

The issue is the government subsidizes families on min wage for eternity. They have no reason to get a real job. Plus, if you are single and have multiple kids, you can put a down payment on a Lexus with your tax check.

Man, some people really do hate the supply demand curve around here.

They can go work for one of the literal millions of other companies out there if they're unhappy with their situation.

I'm not saying every executive is a great person, but do y'all with this position ever have the thought that those people work their asses off night and day, are smarter than their counterparts, and bring in value to the company that another person wouldn't?

It's like the shite with Elon Musk and Bezos. They have ridiculous amounts of money. You know why? Because they fundamentally changed how our species operates. Let me know when you do that and you'll be paid accordingly.

This country was built on small businesses

Was it? Small businesses are healthy because they are the funnel that produces large businesses. But Union Pacific, Ford, GM, JP Morgan, Standard Oil, Microsoft, Amazon, Tesla, Google and Space X are what built America.
