The goal is to give them a chance to better themselves without forcing 100 hour work week and not being able to.
Then just pay for them to go school... Oh wait, they already have grants available to them, then loans to cover anything else.

What changed?
The cost of living. I rented a lake house in South Carolina and lived there comfortably in 2006 when I was making 16.50 an hour. Looked it up and now I couldn’t afford that place and I make 33.75 an hour.

Its a "no win" all around.
People will lose jobs as owners cut staff back due to the increased labor cost. The public (everyone) ends up paying thru unemployment reimbursement (So, now I have to pay because someone got fired from frying fries at McDs).
Smaller staff means either you serve fewer people, or service slows and patrons get pissed. The "rich" (patrons) will start avoiding and publicizing poor service on the establishments who provide lesser service. Fewer customers means less income, which turns into more staff cuts until the business simply can't function. Small businesses will shut down completely.
What we'll be left with in an increase in people collecting unemployment and subsequently welfare and food stamps.
How about that, Joe?

My parents made just enough to not be labeled “poor” for grants but not enough to pay for anything for school.
People working min wage jobs are going to qualify for grants.
Of join a construction union and learn a trade, they get paid while learning.
There are a billion excuses for incompetent people who dont want to work. The trades are begging for people, yet these dipshits flipping burgers will make as much as a construction apprentice.

We started requiring college degrees for jobs that simply don’t need them.
Construction outfits will hire them today, with no training.
Train them to make a real wage.
Fast food workers are too lazy for actual labor, and are too incompetent to learn a skill.. They want the government to keep giving them raises.

It will speed up progress, automation will replace their jobs.
Progressives are dumb, and dont realize this.

Sure minimum wage can't stay flat forever
Sure it can.
In fact, it should be eliminated.

Electricians, plumbers, welders, mechanics, appliance repair....all need people. And these are skills that pay and the need will never go away. The cashier at Family Dollar and the fry cook at Burger King aren't supposed to make a living wage. I know this thread is about small business, but that's where this push is coming from. Unskilled, lazy people that want to work 25hrs a week at a fast food joint and make bank.

Destroying small businesses is the plan. Covid proved that

Why do all wages have to be livable?
They don't.
But if you are running a business and you need someone to work 8+ hours a day, but don't have enough room to pay them to live on that job alone, then maybe you don't have the budget to hire someone and you should do it yourself.

Walmart, Amazon, and other giant corporations getting cheap labor from other countries is what has killed off small businesses and the middle class
Posted on 4/2/24 at 2:05 pm to RogerTheShrubber
Anyone working for min wage is too stupid to raise a family.

Killing small businesses has been the left's wet dream for a long time.

That's your opinion, and the market will decide if your opinion is correct. We don't need the government saying all types of work are worth whatever arbitrary number they pick off the dart board. T

Dumb people showing they don’t understand business, again.

We have hundreds of jobs paying 50-250k a year.
Cant hire people. Too lazy to work, most of our new hires are Filipino on the ships.

So you bitch about social safety nets, medicaid, welfare, etc., but then also bitch about forcing businesses to pay a living wage. The federal minimum wage is a joke and hasn't been adjusted in, what, 10-15 years? Go to school...have you looked at school prices recently? If someone has children and wants to go to school, you're against subsidized childcare (or at least most who hold your views feel this way).
Instead of complaining, I'd love to hear your solutions. It's unclear how someone can claim to be intellectually honest while complaining about every move the government or private sector makes to keep gainfully employed people off the streets.

They shouldn’t be.
Minimum wage was never intended to be a liveable wage.
It’s a wage for a person who has minimal skill.
Want more pay? Develop a skill, or something that adds your value to an employer.
