When will someone just buy a carnival cruise ship and redo it as a yacht?

If I could afford it I would buy one and live off the ocean. Sea fish the shite out of the ocean and catch my food while growing a tropical garden off the roof. I'd have enough water and food to last me as long as possible and only return to land after all the beer and weed was finished being drank and smoked.

Might need fuel buddy

Who owns the big yacht?

Gordon Mckernan. It says "Blessed Are The Lawyers" across the back.

Not a door at the front. That’s where the anchor sits. Also not a dive platform, just a platform used for mooring.

Might happen, but I don’t think these guys like the bulky look of a cruise ship, plus they all want something bespoke and revolutionary design-wise. There are awards given out each year for yacht design. That said, someone has taken a former Navy destroyer and turned it into a yacht. Google the yacht “Yas”.

ETA: here’s another cool conversion. M/Y Legend is a former Soviet ice-breaker turned luxury explorer yacht. A little over 200ft long, awesome looking ship.

What's the point of these yachts - to get into international waters where they can do evil things?

It’d take at least ten years for the Chalmation smell to finally dissipate from the interior spaces.

I'd like to know how much it costs to run a boat like that for a year. Everything from crew, fuel, food, insurance, tax, docking fees etc.

I want to own the large yacht just so I could name it Spaceball 1, and put a giant bumper sticker on the back that says "We Brake for Nobody."

Multiple millions to run a boat that big.

I know for a fact it takes over $1 million/year to run a 115ft boat. I’d imagine these 200+ft ships can cost $3 - 10+ million.

A mil a year is probably a workboat budget. These things dont get near the hours a crewboat or linehaul tug sees.

It's still mindblowing how much these things cost. People dont think about how much machinery is below deck to operate that rig

Of course it takes more than $1MM/yr. If the ship has a crew of 70, and we conservatively estimate that the avg salary is $50k, that’s $3.5MM just in payroll.
