That was my point.

Empowered by the very philosophy and classes that Boomers inundated the public with.

Own that.

That's b/c they all saw men and women with degrees getting ahead of them, despite their real world knowledge.

So the answer was the augment the talent pool artificially via college and degrees? Why did they think that was going to work?

Plenty of blue collar positions can get close to or clear a $100k salary with experience and good work.

One of the biggest boomer rants is that "Millenials get worthless degrees, saddled themselves with debt and work in coffee shops." It's probably a safe bet that 60% of welders or more make more than a barista.

Hell I think your numbers are easily on the conservative side.

That talking point is absolute nonsense if you’re talking on a macro level

I'm just giving you a reason on why people thought that way then.

Obviously, looking back in hindsight, it was an oversold idea.

I mean it depends on what metric you use but I'm either the tail end of Gen X or an early Millenial. No offense, but you sound like a Boomer most of the time. Plus, you seemingly defend them....

Who's blaming who for poor decisions? I didn't make poor decisions, but I understand why people around that generation could. They were brainwashed by Boomers essentially about the American Dream, about college, and about what they should do.

(And "knowing what one should do" and finding a pathway to that is something I am sensitive to. I also work around Education, so I have seen the game played.)

Boomers created an inescapable environment because they controlled colleges and the positions colleges were used to educate for.

The biggest thing we should be mad about is that as a culture we have no desire to swallow the turd and fix it. And honestly, that starts with the Social Security problem that Boomers don't want to fix as well. People see that not being sacrificed to fix, and don't want to sacrifice on their own because Boomers are unwilling to sacrifice. It's funny that the greatest generation gave way to the most selfish and self-serving generation of all.

You're the perpetual victim. It's impossible to reason with people who cannot accept responsibility.

Yeah, it gets old.

Everybody thinks life owes them something.

Life don't owe you jack-shite.

This generation leads the league in the blame game.

It's funny. The arguments these people make are the same exact arguments the Beatnicks and Hippies made 60 years ago.

Nothing changes, young people always blame someone else for their faulures.

At least the hippies actually did something. The also had a spiritual awakening. Today's youth are not much different, just more materialistic.

Nothing is new under the sun.

20 pages of I guess a lot of boomers talking smack about the idiot millennials.

Used to be, you worked until your 60s, then you retired for a few years, then you died.

Now, "retirement" is supposed to be this big thing. Well, most boomers didn't save enough money, so they need to work later in life, and demand higher paychecks, to save up enough money to be able to retire for 20-30 years.

Them staying around longer in the workplace, and drawing ever-higher salaries, stunts the ability of the youngins to start moving up in their careers.

I've seen firm partners in their 60s tell me about how when they were young, their bosses used to always encourage them to get involved in the community, would pass work down to them, help them develop, etc.

Yet, when today's young workers ask these partners for help or more work, they are told to figure it out.

The boomers are completely clueless. THEY have created this mess, and their only solution is to tell the millennials that they are stupid.

This isn't about me, I don't know why you try to make it. I just articulated above that my frustration with Boomers, regardless of where I fit, is that they royally f-ed up culture and education and we seemingly don't have the balls to swallow it - Millenials, Gen X, and Boomers all included. We have no desire to fix it, so we continue down the exact path that Boomers illogically laid out.

The other problem is that everything they did was so against logic and reason, driven by pride, and they still don't recognize that. It's funny that "not accepting responsibility" is the retort, when that's exactly what Boomers need to do AS WELL.

Yes, any millenial that wanted to be a rocket scientist but got a Literature degree should accept responsibility. Any Millenial still working in a coffee shop at 32 should still accept responsibility.

But people who were happy with mid-level jobs, but had to go to college and saddle themselves with $100k of debt because Boomers would only hire Bachelor degrees rather than just Associate Degrees have a little right to be upset.

I mean, do really hold people 100% accountable where they wanted a particular job that doesn't necessarily have sky high pay potential, but still requires a college degree so they have to go get a 4-year degree for no reason? Those are a good portion of modern jobs (I'm of the belief that most jobs, like 80%, do not require college degrees - there's a reason that it's an MD, JD, and PhD in terms of Graduate degrees. There were VERY few reasons to get accelerated degrees).
