These are pretty much the only things I really care about. Keep my water filled. Good servers will always come by if the water is around half full or lower.

Absolutely. I don't mind if other people bring my stuff out. My point was I guess more to TH03's post about just never seeing or hearing from his waiter/waitress. When it is slammed and I don't even get the courtesy of "hey we are slammed, sorry if I inadvertently don't come by enough. Please feel free to grab me or another waiter if you need anything", then there is a problem. Something as simple as that goes a long way.

I usually write on the tip line “here’s a tip, get a real job!” Especially if it’s a male server

These topics are always fun as you see who has worked in the service industry before and who hasn't.

You don’t have to have worked in the service industry to tip properly

For example, why should I tip a waiter more $ for bringing me one $5 bottle of beer than one who is constantly there to refill my $2 cup of coffee?

Because your waiter has to pay more money in tip-out percentage to bartender, bussers, food runners and hostesses on your $5 than on your $2.

100%. It shows me you still care and aren’t purposely ignoring me, the paying customer.

And you're fine with the price of your meal going up 15-20% to compensate the increased wages?

I tip 20% every time. The only time I don't tip is when the service is hilariously bad and the restaurant isn't busy. I have no issue leaving no tips to tools who do the bare minimum and just expect it.

Was there any silverware, napkins or salt and pepper shakers left at the end of the meal?

That’s just for 1-2 hours for the lunch rush. If they made $40 an hour for the full 8 hour shift, everyone would want to work there.

So, in this scenario the server makes ~$40/hr for two hours. That’s $80. In an 8 hour shift they’re guaranteed at least another $7 for a total $87 minimum. That’s almost $11/hr.

What are we crying about again?

Nearly two-thirds of Millennials typically tip below the standard 20 percent suggestion for tips at restaurants

I havent read through this thread and wish i was here for the first page, but when the frick did 20% become standard. Ohh yea, when Waiters started blogging about the standard being 20%.

The study also revealed that 10 percent of Millennials say they "skimp out" entirely, often leaving nothing for a server when dining out.
well 10% of the population is a culture where tipping is just not something they do.

Tipping used to be 15% standard, then 18% now 20%. At this rate it'll be 25-30% and restaurants won't pay their waiters at all.

If I'm 24, am I a Millennial? Most of the references/memes about Millennials on social media nowadays seem to be about anyone under 21 (i.e. Millennials eat tide pods, Millennials are protesting gun violence in high school). Is that "technically" incorrect?

It isn’t Scruffy’s job to pay the worker’s wages.

It is the restaurant owner/manager’s job.

This is bullshite. It is your job to pay their wages through tips. If you cant afford to or are unwilling to, stay the frick home.

Everyone knows waiters and waitresses may about $2 an hour and people have to tip them. And 20% is standard. If they were paid a normal wage without tipping the food would cost more.

Basically by not tipping, your stealing from others as others are subsidizing your meal.

Ftr, I dont tip any exact amount and I eat out 10+ times a week. I just make sure I tip 20% then round up to the nearest dollar or leave an extra dollar or 2 on top of the 20%. So I average 22-25% I would estimate.

You are borderline and almost too young to be considered a millennial

Yes. People generally don't classify mellinials correctly. Today's 18 year olds aren't millennials.

Also, what's up with groups of white women ALWAYS getting separate checks?

White ladies, let us hear from you.

What a terrible way to look at it.
And when this thread pops up next year, the op will say "25% is the standard"
