are we talking like Doordash/Uber Eats?

If so, yea that's an abomination. Complete waste of money and resources. Fake jobs and fake convenience (your food is cold as a brick by the time it arrives).

Now if you're talking about just using the restaurant's website to order for personal pickup---then no. That's one of the best things ever created.

P.S- I still don't understand them asking for tips for pickup

I generally agree and think it's probably way overused by most people and an indicator of societal decay

BUT

i work a lot of hours and make pretty good money. sometimes i just want to drink a couple beers, smoke half a joint, and get a chicken parm delivered to my door

The thought that I would order food, give inadequate directions, pay good money, and expect it to be dropped off on the ground by a stranger who has already been tipped in advance who doesn’t know my location except for my generic address

I DoorDash some in my spare time. You can provide additional directions in the app, and I wish more people would. Most houses are fine as long as the street number is clearly visible. Some people order food to a business and don’t put the name of it. It’s a hell of a lot easier to find a State Farm Insurance sign than 1234 Main Street Suite C.

The worst are apartments, though. If you order to an apartment and don’t have directions provided, you’re an a-hole. I’ve pulled up to apartments and didn’t even have a gate code to use. And many times I will be standing in front of a building with two staircases and don’t know which one to take. Some details would be very helpful.

You are asking about two entirely different things.

You begin your post asking why people order online instead of calling. You end your post asking why people get food delivered via delivery services. Those aren't the same thing.

Now you're going on again about online ordering.

What I hear you folks saying is that you are severely limited in your ability to effectively communicate vocally, person to person, over the telephone.

I think what people are saying is that the person answering the phone often mishears, half listens, forgets, or doesn't speak English as a first language. So submitting an order via their online ordering form eliminates that. How is this hard to understand?

And yet you constantly reply to me when I haven’t said anything to or about you. You’re full of little boy. I take that back, you’re not a little boy. You’re a little punk. I see it clearly and it pisses you off I see you for what you really are, nothing more than an ignorant smartaas little punk.

And yet you'd have us believe that this anger doesn't ever come out when talking to younger people.

Kids just order at will. How about let's order a dozen donuts and pay a $20 delivery fee. I've had to disconnect my credit card from all of those services.

Sounds like a parenting issue moreso than a food delivery issue.

It’s sad I even have to explain this to you but it’s obvious I do. The reason you sense anger and negative vibes in hoe I talk to the little punk Mingo is because of how Mingo talked to me first. If you’re an a-hole to someone then you should not be surprised when they are an a-hole to you. If Mingo were not rude and hateful, I would not react to him with rudeness and hatefulness.

How it is you didn’t seem to understand this, is a mystery.

The fact you believe this only proves how truly stupid you really are. It’s sad you’ll go though your life being an idiot. In fact you’re the worst sort of idiot, one who’s oblivious to the fact you are in fact an idiot.

Darth, I don't "believe" anything. I look at what you say and then I look at the actual data that disputes it.

Generic maybe wasn’t a good choice of words, but my point was that a mailing address is sometimes not specific enough. Businesses often use P.O. Boxes. They frequently share buildings with lots of other tenets. There are building complexes, apartments and trailer parks that are actually quite confusing.

I have found that typing these location instructions into an on-line ordering system is usually ineffective for various reasons. Maybe the driver simply doesn’t bother to read the ticket. Maybe the system isn’t designed to take extra or enough characters, etc.

I can honestly attest that I have seen many food deliveries just sitting in odd places, unclaimed, and untouched (mostly in business locations). Whatever the cause, I think that it’s more likely with the impersonal use of on-line ordering as opposed to good old-fashioned phone conversations with a human being.
