Indeed. It's probably because that's not how you do it. Loosening the lug nuts comes before you lift the car. Tightening the nuts comes after you lower the car.
Sure. If you’re going to get technical then you forgot to mention how to use the jack. But I think you know what I meant.

It's also cheaper.
Eh, not necessarily. Depends on how much you value your time.

I mean, as long as you’re going around saving the day, might as well be thorough.

If I was under 75 and able bodied I seriously would not admit to being unable to open a jar. Sad!

How about be a man and show your kid how to do it?

Even if I’m way over 75, I feel like I’d be able to use an oil filter wrench or something and save face.

The same middle aged South La posters in here bragging about their work ethic, are more likely than not, fat. Funny how that works.

I dont really consider myself Gen X, but I’m closer to that than to Baby Boomers.
[I think anyone who graduated high school between about 1973 and 1989 are a separate generation. Too young to have attended Woodstock or gone to Vietnam, and too old to have grown up after the end of the Cold War. Probably had parents that were Pre-Boomers or Early Boomers (pre-hippies).]
So, here’s my story about a Millennial nephew who lived with me and my wife for a semester while in college. Nice kid but so very naive and sheltered. I kept trying to get him to get out of the house and to go “do something”.
He started dating this girl from a nearby city. I offered to let him use my car any time he wanted to go visit her. The only problem was that it was a stick shift. I tried to teach him how to use it but he declined. He said no thanks!
He was in college and had a girlfriend out of town, and all he had to do to go get laid was to learn how to drive my car and he said “no thanks”!
That was my first encounter with the culture shift taking place with the generation that would soon be called “Millenials”!

Yep.
Dad taught me how to basically fix anything around the house and mechanical skills including welding. Sometimes I learned the wrong way to fix it before the right way. 110 gives a nice shock, 240 a really good shock lol

Sounds just like what people say about 1975-1985. Anyone born a few years before a generation ends or begins probably feels this way.

It amazes me the number of people who can’t change a tire, change their oil, change their brakes, change out an electrical outlet, sharpen mower blades, basic carpentry, turn a wrench, use a pair of pliers, drive a stick shift, paint, or cook.

Best way to learn. Too many people are scared of messing up. I’m working as a plant mechanic now despite zero experience when I started. Made some mistakes along the way but learned from them. Pretty solid hand now.
Really not as difficult as it looks once you start practicing and learning

I worked in a few plants during my life. I always had my own set of tools and even a locker in the maintenance room. It was easier to fix it myself instead of waiting. Not to mention I’m more mechanically inclined then most of today’s plants maintenance workers

Why would you change your own oil

Early Gen X’ers?
Anyway, this event happened in about 2002.
