I don’t usually buy PPV’s, but if he signs up for a fight, I’m all in.

Holyfield's first professional bout was before Tyson's, so he was fighting the same tomato cans Tyson was.
I've always liked the way they brought Tyson along. D'Amato knew who Tyson was. He, and by extension Tyson's promoters, knew they had to bring him along slowly. He was talented, but young, and they knew if they brought him along too fast he could be derailed by a single loss. True, he fought alot of tomato cans, but he fought ALOT of tomato cans. He fought nearly once a month for the first year of his pro career. Those fights, while a let down to some fans, showed everyone that Tyson was legit and that he was getting better every fight.
They managed the early part of his career beautifully.

Good point. I forgot that Holyfield moved up in class. You're right, they were fighting different groups of boxers early in their careers.

Tyson got exposed against Douglas. He was never the same. He showed flashes, but got beat over and over. He is done. Been done. If he gets back in the ring, especially bare knuckled, he is going to get hurt. I thought he wisely moved on. Shame..

Money. Every few years, like locusts, these gimmick fights come back around to being the "big" thing. The fighters get paid, the fans get screwed, and the interest eventually fades. Then, a few years down the road, when fans forget how bad these fights really are, another wave comes.

Young Tyson’s defense was his quickness. He was so hard to connect with. People remember him for his power, but he used to frustrate the hell out of people by being able to slip pretty much any punch and then counter with something that hurt. When he lost a little bit of that quickness, he was beatable. He still had power to knock anyone out, but he just wasn’t the same invincible fighter. Look at his early fights where taller guys would try to keep him at a distance with a jab and how he would slip it, get inside with a body shot, and combo with the uppercut. Now compare that to when he fought Lewis. Lewis jabbed his face into hamburger meat, and Tyson barely got a hand on him the whole fight. That being said, I’d still pay good money to watch him fight again.

In an MMA fight? You're fricking high. McGregor would dominate Tyson.

McGregor would look good... and then he would get hit.

McGregor would have a plan right up until the time Tyson connected with an uppercut.

you guys saying McGregor would dominate Tyson in an MMA fight.....are ya'll being for real? you do realize you can punch people in MMA? its not just Jiu-Jitsu. Mike would absolutely floor McGregor even today. McGregor couldnt even beat Mayweather in a boxing match. Tyson might would legitimately kill the guy.

Floyd didn't exactly whip his arse, and if it had been an MMA fight, Floyd would have been sent directly to Queer St.
frick Mike Tyson. He took a dive against Buster Douglas, and I'm glad he never made it back, except to be an ear-biting circus freak.

Here is where your real agenda comes out, you just dislike Tyson. He didn't take a dive, he spent his training camp doing everything but training and he got beat. Mayweather toyed with Conor until he decided to finish him because he saw early how unskilled of a boxer he was. He carried Conor, sold the fight and allowed both of them a huge payday. Tyson would frick Conor up before it ever got to the ground.

Tyson was one bad Hombre. Basically unbeatable in the 80's. And fundamentally one of the greatest, especially under the tutelage of Cus D'Amato. He began to decline under the management of the crook and mobbed up Shyster Don King, Then Robin Givens, the opportunistic whore, threw him under a bus. Tyson always struck me as a decent guy who got taken advantage of later in life. Donald Trump has always been a fan, so that says a lot about Tyson's character. I wish him the best.

long post, but frick it
the Conor McGregor fanboys are hilarious in how they spin everything in order to desperately try and protect their phony, great white hope.
Conor had a great run in UFC until 2016 when he was matched up with Nate Diaz and got WRECKED. he also arguably lost the rematch in the very next fight that went to a close decision where Diaz completely out-struck him and landed more significant strikes. the fight was left in the judges hands, and of course they had to protect business and give it to Conor.
McGregor then went on to get destroyed by Mayweather in a boxing exhibition, and got destroyed by Khabib back in the UFC .... then Conor goes away for over a year and during that time he sucker punches a senior citizen sitting at a bar....
After his assault on the old man, Conor decides to return to the UFC and what do they do? they make sure to give him a cakewalk of a opponent to ensure an easy win ... Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone .... an aging, and fallen off fighter who had gotten completely destroyed TKO style in back to back fights prior to Conor and was a pathetic 4-7 in his last eleven fights....
but yea, Conor would take out Mike Tyson according to these clueless fanboys

Floyd doesn't destroy anyone. He dances, dodges and throws the occasional punch. Most boring fighter in the history of the sport.
