I would say the point of my post was that it is NOT legit baller money but that some people act like it is... Obviously to hide their insecurity.

I've only been to birmingham, so that kind of skews my opinion.

BHM it's not far from ATL, Huntsville, Tuscaloosa. I thought it wasn't too bad of a place going through it.

gotcha, there is an abundance of pretense in that state

Cant argue with that although I think it is a national issue more than something unique to AL. LA folks are pretty real and that is one of its best qualities.

OP did not include metro in post

Memphis metro is still ~190K larger. That's a lot of folks

Oh good lord.

The difference is a distinction without a difference.

I doubt Memphis or Birmingham will come close to DFW in that respect. They both seen relatively down to earth.

I don't think Birmingham is the mid-south though. I see that as the Deep South.

Memphis has a bit of culture to it at least, so that.

Birmingham: 1.1. million metro, Much more scenic than Memphis, very good public school system, UAB and Samford, AA Baseball - Barons, SEC Headquarters, Civil Rights Institute, pretty good food town and beer

Memphis: 1.3 million metro, from what I gather the public school system is lacking, University of Memphis - Christian Brothers - Rhodes, Memphis Grizzlies, AAA baseball - Redbirds and Hockey - RiverKings, Graceland, a much better airport, Memphis Zoo, St. Jude, FedEx, Beale Street, good soul food and music.

Both offer a lot and are different cities from each other. Memphis does offer a good bit more than Birmingham, but Birmingham is much more scenic than Memphis. Depends what you are looking for I guess.

I'm always confused by this statement of culture when Birmingham has some of the best bars in the USA.

If you equate culture with a bar, then yes, you might be confused. Memphis and Bham are both old southern cities with a sketchy past. However, Memphis has some really great historical places (Graceland, Pink Palace, Beale, Lorraine Motel), along with a globally known reputation for food and music. Also, some the best duck hunting in my life down in N. Miss. (Crowder area).

No it fricking doesnt dude. Every city has a buffalo wild wings.

If you have yo fill out a membership card to get in past midnight, your bars suck. Birmingham has some positives, but nightlife is not one of them.

I moved there before the Promenade and everything opened up. I remember having to go to Pelham for wal mart

We moved there in 1991. I remember getting GI JOE toys from the old brown Wal-Mart in Pelham where the Staples is now located.
