kind of a stretch to use class and anything from AL in the same sentence

Midtown and East Memphis have a LOT more old money & class than anywhere in Bham, Mountain Brook included
Bham has no old money. (old money = cotton money). Bham only sprouted after the war and exploded, hence the name, magic city.

You can find good food, beer, and music in pretty much any city. That's not really a good reason to move there.

This is a huge plus for Bham. I like being able to take a long weekend at the beach. Thinking about getting a bay boat again.

memphis also has a pro sports team, which is cool... even though they're a disfunctional mess right now.
They fixed that. Grizz are back on track. They gonna be wrecking shop.

Damn there are places that are worse than B'ham? I find that hard to believe.
Its kind of a thing in Alabama to shite on Bham.
I don't understand why.
If we want to take a shite on a city that needs it we would be talking about some of the backwoods craziness in Walker County.
For everyone thinking about moving to Bham, the sweet spot in Birmingham * is absolutely amazing for young professionals and raising a family.

Birmingham is very nice (at least in the areas safe enough to go), but a very boring place in terms of people. I wanted to like it but just couldn't.
Memphis seems a bit more fun, but a place lost in time, so to speak. I got the feeling that it used to be a lot cooler and lost its edge.

The people here who act like they are aristocracy because their grandparents made a lot of money make me chuckle. "No, I'm not impressed by your tanning bed and Mustang GT. Your wife's bolt-ons are nice to look at though."

Flaming aside, Birmingham has a lot more to offer than it gets credit for. Memphis may be fun to visit and eat at, but for having a good life I'd take Birmingham.

I get alot of that in my hood. county stay at home MILFs who think they are the Kardashians because their husbands are junior partners at the firm and make 150k.

Raising a family? Sure. Amazing for young professionals? No. The only big plus for a single young bachelor in alabaster is "it's not really that far from other stuff to do".

Fair point, either you are the type of person that will have fun in either city or you will probably be miserable in both.

traffic is a nightmare
I can say a lot of bad things about the Memphis metro, but traffic is not one of them......and I take Poplar in Germantown and east Memphis every day.
I think Birmingham has better Tex/Mex and nicer terrain IMO.
Memphis has slightly colder winters....but local authorities actually salt and brine the roads. That's a plus.
Memphis might more Fortune 500 companies and probably a smaller proportion of Alabama fans. That's a serious plus.
Both have some serious issues with crime and politics but lots of medical jobs. I think Birmingham may have the edge in the medical field.
I think Memphis has a couple of nicer, more established suburbs but Birmingham has some nice areas too. The two cities are surprisingly comparable.
Birmingham to me feels more like a tiny Atlanta. Memphis feels like a cross between Birmingham and St Louis.
There's no state income tax in Tennessee, but I think Birmingham metro has lower property taxes.

I grew up in Alabaster, before the recent explosion in population and Commerce. I currently live in Auburn. I'd take B'ham area over Auburn any day. Plan on moving to Chattanooga at the beginning of next year.

I would say the point of my post was that it is NOT legit baller money but that some people act like it is... Obviously to hide their insecurity.

Alabaster Bro
I moved there before the Promenade and everything opened up. I remember having to go to Pelham for wal mart .
Its surreal how different the place is now.
