I read that initially at $8.41 million tax debt because in my mind there is no way they take a house over $8 in debt

Minus penalties, etc it’s what they are now saying he should have received. Most of the properties are blighted and unoccupied. So if you are in favor of fixing that issue then this was not a win. The present case was just a bad application of that system.

well yes but they are allowed to deduct for expenses and processing fees and other BS to make bank off of and i bet it was a shady sale so someones family so they can buy it before the public gets a chance to and the insider buys it at pennies on the dollar, so a $500k house sells for $50k to uncle bob.
you hear stories all the time about prime properties being sold at unannounced unadvertised sales so no one else knows about it to bid on it

Tried to find some additional info and this case, and found this nugget:
You can’t make this shite up.
Also found that Rafaeli bought the house in 2011 for $60,000. So even if they paid him the full $24,500 from the tax sale, he still would have taken a $35,500 loss on the property over an $8 tax bill.
Oh, AND he apparently underpaid the taxes in 2011 but paid in full 2012 and 2013, and actually paid the original balance in 2013 as well:

Does “more to the story” change the fact that the county seized his property over $8.41 in unpaid interest on taxes and didn’t even give him the net proceeds from the tax sale?
Because if not, I’m not sure how it changes anything.
