Why do you assume that there is no bias in juries?

You're going to have a hard time convincing many people that was self defense.

What is the previous sketchy behavior? I know nothing about the case other than seeing the video 4-5 times

Neither will I.

They got the Zimmerman case right. Hopefully, they get this one right as well and put this guy away.

I never said that.

And Joe Six Pack isn’t? He’s just going to employ some of that good ole common sense and overcome his biases. Because clearly people on the lower end of the IQ spectrum overcome bias and prejudice at higher rates than those on the higher end.

Everyone is biased to a degree.

Everyone.

This thread is a perfect example of why I despise our trial by jury of peers system.
Yeah, that really just means dumb people deciding guilt or innocence. Would be better if we had a panel of 3 judges determine a verdict.

2 things: 1.) I said in my opinion 2.) my opinion is based on what we know so far.

Hell, like the Sterling case, my opinion changed when more video/evidence came out. Similarly, my opinion changed on the Philandro Castile case when the body cam footage came out.

Back to this case, it does not appear to me that Michael needed to take that shot.

The right to trial by jury is literally outlined in our constitution, in the sixth amendment.

quote:

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed,

In the Declaration of Independence, they accused King George III of depriving them of the right to trial by jury. It was cited as one of the reasons for the American revolution.

quote:

In the Declaration of Causes and Necessity of Taking Up Arms, the Continental Congress cited the denial of “the accustomed and inestimable privilege of trial by jury, in cases of both life and property.” In 1776, in our Declaration of Independence, the charges against Britain’s King George III included, “Depriving us in many cases, the benefits of trial by jury.” With that document, America’s founding fathers made trial by jury a right for which they pledged “[their] lives, [their] fortunes, and [their] sacred honor.”

It's very disappointing to see a lawyer openly shite on a system that his ancestors fought and died for, works pretty damn well as a safeguard against prosecution, defense and the judge.

I’m not surprised you’ve chosen this hill to die on. It’s marginally better than the position you carved out earlier based on your misunderstanding of assault/battery and self-defense vs retaliation.

I guess a-hole should have known the difference between assault and battery as well. Maybe then he would have just sat there as boyfriend kicked his teeth in. Much better outcome.

It's a hill I have no threat of dying on and one that is well defended by hundreds of years of history, precedent and tradition.

And I'm right here. Antonio Moss fricked up on that one. You would think a lawyer would know better than to reveal a weakness so easily like that.

You’re aware that many conservative and libertarian thinkers agree with Antonio Moss? This is not a new idea. There are problems with the way we select jurors, and our current system isn’t working the way it was designed to.

Your citing the Constitution isn’t representative of your taking a nuanced position.

Lot of precedent says otherwise, 20 states have stand your ground laws and most of the time the shooter gets the benefit of the doubt.

"In February, Cyle Wayne Quadlin and Kriston Charles Belinte Chee got into a fight in the middle of a Walmart in Chandler, Arizona. After sensing that he was losing the fight, Quadlin pulled out his gun and shot and killed Chee, who was unarmed. After declaring he had feared for his life, Quadlin was not arrested. "

Maybe so but what proposals have they offered that would replace the jury and still serve as a viable and effective safeguard against judge, prosecution and defense?

Sounds like a problem of government.

I was merely providing the background of what exactly Antonio Moss was shitting on and expressing a simple opinion that a lawyer with that opinion was very disappointing.

If he wants to shite on what the framers envisioned for America, then he's free to do so.

It just doesnt appear that you’ve done any homework on any of the things you’re discussing in this thread. The arguments you’re offering don’t make any sense.
