Yeah he is. Said if Katrina was 60 miles to the west BR would have been destroyed. First of all that isn't nearly far enough west. Second.. Well I'm sure you can guess what number two is.

The Gulf is certainly more interesting looking this morning with some storms offshore of Tampa. The models track this area of storms generally NNW towards the Big Bend with little development. However, some of the high res models do wrap this area up enough to produce a TS over the next 24 - 36 hours.

There is an upper level low (ULL) over the SE that is forecasted to drift W or SW over the next day or so. The track of the ULL could open a brief window for something to spin up but as of now none of the reliable global models are showing anything.

In the longer range, the models are still indicating that the western areas of the Gulf could produce something. It is hard to say if anything will actually develop or if it will be a hybrid system or truly tropical. The 00z Euro gets it down to around 990mb before bringing it inland.

Oh, and Grace... something, something,

What does this mean. The blob by Texas is going to turn into the blob by Florida?

I'm glad Grace is weakening. We can handle a depression with no problem, but a ts will knock out power and internet for the better part of a week. Damn caribbean islands and their 3rd world power grid and early 2000s level internet better not make me miss the LSU vs MSU game sat.

The GOM homebrew needs to keep its outer bands away from NELA its harvest time.

Doesn't worry me. Usually isn't a lot of lightning associated with hurricanes

I look for the storms ultimately to end up dicking with the Pacific:

And some increased support from the 12z Euro EPS but still a long way off. It appears that the Euro is taking a complicated path to develop this system, so still a lot of time for things to change.
