This is dead wrong. Cruisers are filling ships at a record rate and you think 42$ is going to stop tha

Well, that escalated quickly. Visiting Mexico basically supports a HUGELY corrupt army. Yowsers.

This.

Cruise lines aren’t going to abandon the port infrastructure and built in BS just off the boats because of $42. This will 100% be passed onto the consumer.

Your loss. A friend and I did a 3 week road trip in 2022; from Mexico City to Guadalajara, to Puerto Vallarta, to Mazatlán, to Durango, to Chihuahua, to Monterrey, to Tampico, to Mexico City. Something over 3,500 miles, with a Mexican driver who is a friend of my friend. He kept us out of the dangerous spots, and the only place he vetoed was Culiacan. That was a good veto on his part, the video of the cartels shooting down the chopper was in Culiacan, two weeks later.

It was an awesome trip. Beautiful country that has a much better standard of living than most Americans think. It never felt unsafe, other than the discussion of Culiacan. Life should be lived. Safety is vastly overrated.

Can’t impose that on Carnival or it would be racist.

Why would they impose a fee on someone that is paying to come spend money in their country. How does this make sense?

We definitely have tariffs already in place with multiple countries, and that's before you consider not having favored tax countries.

the lower house of Mexico’s Congress voted this week to charge a $42 immigration levy for every passenger on cruise ships that dock in Mexico.

It has just been passed by the lower house of their congress for now.

I guess defense is pushing this.

quote:

In the past, cruise ship passengers had been exempted from the immigration fee, because they sleep aboard the vessels and some don’t even get off the ship during port calls. They would apparently be charged the $42 fee anyway, according to the new budget law.

… “It is necessary to eliminate the exemption from immigration document payment for foreign passengers who enter Mexico aboard cruise ships,” according to the new law.

Is there even an actual document?

The passengers that leave ship help the economy, and the ones who stay aboard likely cost them nothing.

It’s pure money grab. They are assuming it will stop nothing, add hundreds of millions in extra tax revenue, and then funnel 2/3’s of that to the military.

As for as myself, I have no plan going on a cruise especially one that stops off in Mexico so I don't care about this at all, but for those who do.. this will be passed down to the customer. In that case, will $42 more per person be a make or break for people?

I really have no clue. Will someone planning a cruise for two look at the final price and think "this is $84 more than I was expecting. I am out".

Thanks for the update. I'll just continue to avoid Mexico as I have since 2002. since I don't really need my head cut off.

Do they realize they are killing their own economy? Mexicans depend on American dollars from tourism. Socialist aren't your sharpest people.

It’s Mexican tradition to sneak into a country illegally. Maybe they’re encouraging that.

So, hey, Mexico,

Here's the thing.

I've already seen all of your major tourist destinations. I don't have to go back anytime soon.

So, good luck with all that.

Everyone is freaking out but all youll notice (or wont) is that your cruise costs a little bit more. Youll still go if you went before.
