Mexican city struck by rare massive hail storm

Guadalajara had been enjoying a sweaty summer for the past few weeks until the weekend brought a shocking surprise.
The Mexican city woke up Sunday morning to more than 3 feet of ice in some areas after a heavy hailstorm swept through the region.
As government officials scrambled to contain the damage and clear up roads, residents captured jaw-dropping footage of vehicles and residences swallowed by ice

I see Guadalajara is 5000 feet above sea level. I don't know how much hail they get but I notice that US locations like Denver and Colorado Springs seem to get more hail than we do down here near sea level. I bet hail is common in thunderstorms in the mountains of Mexico. Now a meter of hail, that storm must have been a doozy.

That’s wild, it’s probably the first time they’ve ever seen ice from weather.

I chuckled just seeing the OP made another post just to add the link.

Is there even a Mexican word for "hail"?

It hailed a couple of weeks ago at my house in BR. Nothing close to this but was still weird.

"Fix A Dent" people could make a killing down there now.
I had 2 vehicles get bad hail damage when a storm blew through N.O. around 2000. Damn vehicles looked like I parked on a driving range and put a bullseye on them for people to try to hit.
But hell, that is a serious amount of hail to accumulate like that.

Being it was mexico i assumed a cocaine filled plane had exploded above the city thus explaining the white powder in the pictures.

Hail that accumulates like that is usually dime to quarter size. Comes down like sleet on steroids.
