No, its what they developed mental institutions for. They took a big hit when Obama started messing with healthcare.
You need to do a whole, whole lot more reading on the downfall of our country's public mental healthcare system.

We will need less mental care institutions if we stop encouraging mental illness in our children
We used to keep score in sporting events It taught kids how to lose Everybody loses at some point in life You don't get the girl you don't get the job you have to learn how to handle adversity we don't allow our kids to learn how to handle adversity
In education students aren't challenged they aren't disciplined they aren't held accountable
Now when they become professionals, they don't know how to handle disappointment, they don't know how to apply themselves to hard work because they got as because they whined
most of this can be fixed just by teaching accountability responsibility and how to handle failure

Watch “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest” and most of the asylum patients would fit right in with folks who wander downtown areas of large cities now. They would self-medicate in the absence of the prescription medicine and become addicts.

Yeah, no.
That is a very minor part of it.
Some people will always need to be institutionalized.

So the very first sentence of my post says less not none
and then illustrates which is inarguable if you paid attention the last 20 to 30 years
You're a fricking moron

And if you care to pay attention, and I expand upon it if we stopped encouraging our children to be weak and went back to more traditional values and education, sports and two parent households we would have less children on medication, which is also a big leader in the mental health crisis, and I don't just mean the transgender medication
and we need less porn and less digital lives and more real lives
Get out and touch some grass and touch some pussy

Mental healthcare needs more funding.

Don't worry, we have a vaguely worded Executive Order that is supposed to fix all of that.

Drugs aren't the reason for the mental illness.

thank you I hope you can learn to read

Agreed OP. How could anyone downvote this? I work at a prison and see it too. Drugs can't even help a lot of these people.

The term "funny farm" is an offensive and outdated slang term for a psychiatric hospital or mental institution. Though it has been used humorously in the past, it is now considered derogatory and trivializes mental health issues.

With what I do for a living I see it everyday. There are tons of people every week that come in that can’t handle any kind of adversity and are barely functional in the real world.

Some people are mentally ill and do outright wacky unfortunately violent stuff because they refuse to take their meds. There needs to be a law where if they're medicated after being diagnosed and they do something to break the law they need to be sent to a mental hospital for observation, not a jail the first time.
If they are a second offender they'll go to jail for however long the judge decides where they'll have to be separated and medicated. Rehabilitation and education as well as mental health counseling will be a part of both scenarios. Where does the money for the facilities and staff come from? I'd say that's a better thing the fedgov could help subsidize than most the stuff they did in the previous admin. This is a problem in every state.
