Below is part of an article I found.

Lyle and Erik were arrested for their parents’ murders in March 1990 and charged with first-degree murder in December 1992. During their separate trials, they argued they killed their parents in self-defense after suffering years of sexual abuse, primarily by José but also Kitty.

During his testimony on September 13, 1993, Lyle claimed Kitty invited him to bed and asked him to touch her “everywhere” beginning when he was around age 11 until after he turned 13. He also testified she would frequently appear fully or semi-nude in front of him inside their house.

The elder brother also accused Kitty of physical and psychological abuse, saying she kicked him and dragged him to his room by his hair. He claimed she would punish him by throwing his prized possessions, including stuffed animals, out of his window.

The initial trials for each brother resulted in hung juries. During their joint retrial in 1995, a judge quickly ruled the defense had provided insufficient evidence of José’s alleged abuse—key to their claim of killing in self-defense. A jury ultimately convicted Lyle and Erik on March 21, 1996.

Although there was no physical proof of Kitty’s abuse, a cousin of Erik and Lyle said then-8-year-old Lyle confided in her about José’s molestation in 1976. Diane Vander Molen told ABC News she spoke to Kitty about the admission. “By her demeanor, I could tell that she was not believing any of this,” Vander Molen said. “And [she] went downstairs, and Lyle had already gotten into the bed next to mine, and she went ahead and yanked him by the arm and took him back upstairs, and I never heard anything else about that.”

Watch the Netflix show

Some of the sexual detail in the confessions is disturbing. Not sure if its accurate or made for tv but it’s disgusting

heard a lawyer say the case came on the heels of the OJ verdict and prosecutors et al were anxious to throw the book at someone.

This case happened well before OJ

I definitely believe the abuse happened in some form, but that doesn't (by itself) create a valid defense to premeditated murder.

this was sort of the prosecution's case, it's been a long time but iirc, the kids weren't minors or living at home, i.e. weren't captive sex slaves, the parents had significant assets, and the "boys" were the only beneficiaries, there was no longer a threat and they most certainly plotted a cold blooded murder, maybe the old man was a serial abuser of them and his wife, but that wasn't a factor in the pre-meditated moida case

Eric was still at home and claims his dad raped him just a few weeks prior

Lyle claims he was enraged when Eric told him the dad was still raping him

No. The second trial happened after OJ was acquitted and at one time the brothers were in the same jail as OJ.

Yeah, I don't see how anyone can ignore the way they killed their mom. Horrible, but I see they are accusing the mom of abuse as well.

Honestly, if they were abused as children, but their motivation for killing their parents was money, I still don't care. Their parents deserved to die (if the abuse allegations are true)

I think the prosecutors(although not the best and brightest,) shot that up pretty well, it was a little funny that the defense lawyers had them dressed up real preppy and cute to make them look like yuteful little vics but both had receding hairlines and I think one of them wore some kind of hair prosthetic because he was almost bald, they also wore makeup in the courtroom, iirc, they convinced the jury(again, they've proven to to not be the best and brightest)

I agree, unfortunately our legal system rarely sees it this way, cue: Jody Plauche

On Thursday, Gascón mentioned a 1988 letter from Erik Menéndez to a cousin that appears to reference alleged abuse by his father, as well as an abuse allegation made by Roy Rosselló, a former member of boy band Menudo, against José Menéndez, who worked as a record company executive.

Both hearsay that would have to be investigated decades after the alleged abuse and proven before self defense can be considered. Which is what I assume this AG is pointing to.

Didn't they do some terrible things after or during killing them?

Sounds like the AG is just trying to get publicity for future political movement

"If you don’t know anything about the case, maybe don’t comment."

Sir, this is the OT. That will never happen . Also, I can't believe it's been over 30 years they've been in prison.

Should have confessed when they called 911 instead of claiming the mafia did it.

Teenagers having to blow their parents away with shotguns due to years of sexual abuse. I doubt they trusted anyone at that point in their lives. I don’t blame them.

Dad kills his son’s abuser and the OT celebrates him as a folk hero.

Sons kill their own abuser and OT says rot in prison you scumbags.

This place is very inconsistent.
