My biological dad left my mother sister and I as a young kid. I would spit in his face if I ever saw him again. He has inspired me as to what not to be like
with my own kids

I’d argue if you’d let your wife come first everything else will take care of itself

My ex wife's Father walked out and left she and her Mother when my ex was around 4 years old. She tried for the longest to have a relationship with him and he never wanted it.

fricked her up bad in the head.

To me, caring for your family is the absolute minimum responsibility in life. Even if you do t like your wife you chose her without a gun to your head. See that crap through

It’s a fricking two way street though.

We’re on our first marriage and doing pretty well after many years and couple kids but have seen enough shite (mostly in other’s marriages/divorces but some forgivable idiocy in ours) to see the reality of it.

And the reality is that it’s often not a clear cut thing. I’ve seen situations where the cheating spouse was a true POS to a devoted spouse, and others where cheater was the victim of years of neglect and mental abuse by a POS spouse.

Get used to it. Your wife will duplicate the home she was raises in.

I guess that’s why this will be her 2nd or 3rd divorce

See if I ever get divorced, and I’m happily married by the way, I’m almost certainly never going to get married again.

Same here.

My mom and dad were married for 56 years. I am a better person because of their marriage. She passed this year.

I have already been married to a great lady for over a quarter of a century and raised some great kids. I pushed all my chips in the middle of the “marriage poker table” one time.

Sacrificial love.
Joint bank account.
Put everyone else in the home’s needs above mine.
Overpay for the right house in the right school district.
Attend (happily) every school or sports function.

However.....

If my wife flaked out and left, I am never marrying again. I am never long term dating again.

I am living for me. Fast cars, motorcycles, trips, fun (and very temporary) women, etc.

I will never understand a man who leaves one family and then willingly creates another one. Being a husband and a father is hard work. It’s near impossible to keep a woman happy because women are not happy creatures by nature. They are too complex.

Doesn't demand anything yet. Give it time.

I don’t think this it totally by intention alone. We meet people through family and friends or schooling. Most times we marry in our “class” due to that’s whats around us.

unless you're talking about the 2 poles, it's mostly about education level and professional class, with the man being 4-5 years older typically

it's just how hetero western humans have sorted themselves out over time

My wife does absolutely nothing to appease me, I do everything to appease her and the children.

i've witnessed this in my professional life a lot

sometimes i feel like i'm doing it in my personal life, too

last week i almost made a big SFP thread about this and a legit, genuine question about why women seem so unhappy and tend to be more negative in their mindset than men.

this all seems reinforced with the bullshite "don't try to fix her problems, just let her bitch" philosophy. we've just incentivized the hell out of complaining constantly and that can't be healthy for a mindset

and these comments aren't even about strong women or anything like that. i know some strong women and they may bitch, sure, but they also find solutions to the problems (for themselves and those around them). they may be more inflexible in their worldview, but that worldview is typically to build things up and not just complain

I have a good friend who left his wife and kids for a bimbo. Is this a chemical imbalance? In nature leaving your offspring unprotected is a no no.
I’ve advised him to go back home. He refuses to take my counsel. They live in an apartment in the warehouse district.
So he never sees his children, he just abandoned him?

Or did he leave a wife who made him unhappy only?

It's a shame that he puts his needs ahead of his children's. Without knowing the whole story for his new living situation, it's hard to assess, but generally, if you are going to "leave your wife and kids", you need to get a divorce and arrange custody.

If he abandoned them all together like none of them ever existed, then he will regret it when the new whore he's with fricks him over.

Abandoning them would make him a piece of shite. If he was in a bad situation that made it worse for the kids by him being there involved with the spouse, AND he works to see his kids in a healthy environment, then there's nothing wrong with that.

You just absolutely described me from the start of your reply to the end of it - except I haven't been married as long as you. I like your poker analogy. I put everything in as well.

quote:

This can't be overstated enough. I see it too many times. Hell, I know a bunch of "those guys". They got married to a piece of shite who treated them and her kids like shite. The divorce happened, and next thing you know the guy is out looking for Part 2. frick that. If my marriage fell apart, I'll settle for being dad to my kids, and casual partner to the chick I'm banging. That's as far as I would go with it. Would certainly not look for a 2nd wife in an effort for a "re-do" in life.

My father in law did that, and he's absolutely miserable with #2.
