I saw Quiet Man about 6 or 7 years ago on TMC while visiting my mother. She fell asleep in her recliner, but I had gotten into the movie by then and didn't change channels. When Wayne kicked O'Hara in the arse, I laughed so loud I woke my mother up. I couldn't believe it, even for an old movie.

I cant comment on how things used to be portrayed kn television, but based directly on the post, I would say it is a good thing. Men slapping women is not something that should be normalized. If it is in the context of the man being a pos, then it is fair game.

Favorite John Wayne movie. I still watch it a few times a year.

Me too.

And her big beef with him was that she thought he was a coward and a wimp because he wouldn't fight her brother for her dowry. She didn't know about him killing a man in the ring, or even that he was a boxer.

When he finally had enough of her shite, he dragged her back to her brother, 5 miles across open terrain of Ireland.

Awesome movie. Love the character Michaeleen "Óge" Flynn!!

A man should never slap a female unless that female has a knife or gun. A man should never put himself in that spot. A man should choose his female partner wisely.

I definitely agree here. My mom was always coaching us on what look for in a mate. Ie...a female that feeds you alchol when you clearly have an issue with it, isnt a good one. I think of that piece of advice when I watch Doc Holliday's interaction with his lady in Tombstone.

I've nvr even thought about lifting my hand at a girl in anger. BUT I will add to your list of "never but ok..." if a girl racks me...i'm whipping her arse. Thats someone out to do true harm, and crosses the line.

It's because just telling them to calm down usually has the opposite effect.

Can't believe no one has mentioned the Honeymooners.
Even tho Ralph never hit her, he was always threatened to send Alice to the moon.

Fedoras were commonplace on tv too. I guess that makes me cool.

Sometimes I wish it was still acceptable to give one a firm backhand across the mouth when they start bitching
