Men slapping women on television used to be fairly commonplace.

Might be a shock to some younger folk and sjw types but it was quite common not too long ago for men to be seen slapping women on television. And wasn't portrayed to really be a big deal. Season 2 of cheers has Sam Malone pretty angrily slapping Diane during a break up. I mean, this wouldn't fly today.
And Mary Steenburgeon married Ted Danson. Let that sink in.

The last good one I remember was Jake Spoon slapping Lori (Diane Lane) in Lonesome Dove.
“I recon he got his poke. If I’m wrong, you can slap me back.”

I bet you believe in corporal punishment because your daddy spanked you when you was young

quote:IIRC that was done in a romantic comedy context where she had slapped him first. Not excusing it, but it's also not like he popped her one after coming home drunk.

The one I've always found really strange is from a Dick Van Dyke Show episode c. 1964. A smooth bachelor type explains why he's never gotten married. It seems he has a weakness: "I like to hit women". He says this very matter of factly, almost smiling. This seemed strange to me when I first saw it 30 years ago and would probably seem even weirder now.

Where did I say I supported it? You must be a jussie for justice type.

You started a troll thread so I decided to take a shite in it

I’d say good riddance to that.

I believe in corporal punishment with kids. It worked quite well in the old days.
I do NOT believe I’m the pussified methods suggested by modern psychologists. How is all of that working out for today’s youth? Not too well
I haven’t seen any positive return on investment from parents following these psychologists’ advice.

I sometimes come on here and shake my head and wonder if I’m the only sane one left

I’ve spanked my kids maybe twice. Both have grown up to be incredibly nice and well behaved kids. You don’t have to spank them in order to discipline. If you feel the need to do so that’s your choice, but the threat of violence doesn’t have to be a prerequisite for raising well behaved kids. I was spanked as a kid and I’m sure deserved it but at the same time my father didn’t have nearly as close of a relationship with me that I have with my kids.

A man should never slap a female unless that female has a knife or gun. A man should never put himself in that spot. A man should choose his female partner wisely.
