I don’t believe in forgiveness, we are our every action. If one of our actions ends up hurting someone, we have one of two choices…end the relationship and leave it where it sits, or with our future actions make up for the one that hurt them. There is no say, do.

A true and sincere apology contains three pieces:

1. I’m sorry
2. It was my fault
3. How can I make it better?

— Randy Pausch

…. otherwise when saying I’m sorry it is just a kind gesture which can be used interchangeably with excuse me. To say that you were taught that men don’t apologize sounds like your dad carried around a club and lived in a cave.

Drunks, addicts, and narcissists. To them, it’s always someone else’s fault.

Not saying you are one of those, but real men own their shite.

Is this a real question? Accidents are accidents but they are always someone’s fault. Just say sorry, ya fricked up.

Yeah there are some responses in this thread that I assume are serious and are examples of actual toxic masculinity.

Just because you didn't intend for a result doesn't mean that it's not your fault.

Not blaming you. Cause "I was taught that men don't apologize". But thats fricked up. One of the best things a man can do is be able to apologize.

"The real message though is that you don't do things for which you have to apologize. So everything I do is with intent." This sounds great. If everyone did this more then we would be in a better place. But when accidents happen and they do, if you were the cause of it then you need to be able to apologize for said accident.

If we as people could just find a middle ground everything would be so much better. A white male shouldnt be apologizing for being a white male, but kids should see their parents willing to say im sorry if the need arises.

I’m man enough to admit to admit when I’m wrong. Unintended consequences can happen even when something is done with the best of intentions. Plus no one is infallible

This is beyond stupid. Uninsightful men don't apologize. Normal men do.

Seriously? The fact this has to be explained is troubling. Just because there is an accident does not mean someone did not do something wrong. As I am leaving church last weekend Inaccidently stepped on the back ankle of the lady in front of me. It was not intentional and she was not injured, but of course I apologized. I was wrong for not paying attention even though I did not intend to step on her foot. I have done things like walk into an area to purchase things where there was no structured line and been out of turn. When told that I was not next I apologized and let the next right person go ahead of me. I have subconsciously turned off lights while leaving a room when others were still in the room and accidentally turned off a TV or paused it when others were watching.. In those situations I apologize to the people.

In those situations you just ignore the fact that you made a mistake and let people go on about their day without accepting responsibility for your mistakes? That seems like odd behavior. Even the biggest jerks I have ever known would apologize for accidents like those and others.

You should apologize for using this term. You can describe it in other terms.
