The reason it hit home with me is because my daughter was a student of Perkins at the time when all this went down. Luckily we did not get one of those dreaded calls from the Livingston School Board as my daughter never ate anything in her class.
Part of this case was an incident where Perkins allegedly ejaculated into cupcake batter. Then Cynthia made the cupcakes, fed them to some of her students, and recorded them eating them so he could see the video. Parents of those kids on video were called into the school board for 1-1 meetings to explain the situation. My daughter claims some of the students involved are still really screwed up mentally and in therapy.
I can't imagine being a parent and getting a phone call like this...or being on the school board and having to explain this to a parent.

So you think she’s in a hurry to help out the prosecutors that just helped send her to prison for life? No one ever wants to testify against other people unless they have to or being forced to, so they can get a reduced sentence.
She claims he drugged her. Therefore, she believes she’s a victim of his, too. If she truly believes he drugged her and forced her to take part in sexual encounters she should be elbowing her way to the front of the line to testify against him.

So does the fact she was unconscious thus not able to resist make it aggravated? Or was this a case where they were under 13 so it WAS one of the kids? If that’s the case I take back what I said and life in prison seems more than fair.
Two or more people

This case is crazy. In the child rape allegations, are they against him or his wife?

If Perkins did in fact drug Curtin, seems to me this would be evident to some degree on the video, which her attorney could have used (along with her testimony) to sway the jury. What say the OT lawyers?

Not to mention at this point, but what does she have to lose?

I noticed this bit about the testimony:
quote:
Curtin defense lawyer John McLindon cross-examined Guidry for hours, asking why it didn't "raise any red flags for him" when Curtin told him in a suspect interview that she believed Perkins might have drugged her in the early morning hours of Nov. 8, 2014, the date of the alleged rape. And he pushed Guidry to explain why, in an interview with Curtin and Perkins' alleged victim played for the jury, Guidry didn't follow up when the victim said Curtin "looked like there was something wrong with her" in the homemade "sex tape" of the rape. The victim and Curtin knew each other before the investigation, McLindon explained, giving them a degree of authority to say whether Curtin appeared unwell in the video.
"I guess I just missed it," Guidry told the defense attorney.
Seems like that would be a big question mark to look at, no?

is insane she did not take a plea. Makes you wonder what goes through someone's mind when they're looking at a life sentence without parole and choose to gamble with a jury who would more than likely convict them.
In Livingston nonetheless.
McLindon is a fart bag.

I'm reminded of a teacher in high school. I had a teacher who would often talk of how he was a chef as for his other job outside of school. He'd oftentimes show us pictures of different things he'd made. We used to beg him to bring us food that he'd cook. He'd always say it's strictly against school rules and he would lose his job.
At the time I thought that was such a stupid rule. Now, I all of a sudden understand the rule...

Wow. This raises a huge flag for me. I wish I could have watched the entire trial but this makes me concerned she actually was a victim, was drugged and is now serving a life sentence for being a victim.

Both. He is a monster. She assisted and took part. Allegedly.

What are the chances that the judge pulls a Trudy White and vacates the jury’s verdict due to Curtin being impaired and not understanding her actions?
If she were in EBR and of color, I would put her chances at 60%. But she isn’t so I would say no chance. Please talk to me about that privilege I always hear about in the justice system.

Yikes. I wasn't sure if it was like one of those teacher/teenage student things.
Doesn't sound like that at all.

Not even close. They videoed everything he/they did in their home. There were multiple victims including, allegedly, her own children. The students only come into the situation because he allegedly “came” into cake batter or the icing with her knowledge. She then - allegedly- brought cupcakes with that special ingredient to her students and videoed them eating it.
ETA We know video evidence was found of the cupcake perversion bc school officials had to meet with the parents of every child who ate one of the cupcakes in her classroom.

once word gets out he was a former cop convicted of these egregious crimes.
They’ll know before he gets there. He’s absolutely going to serve his time in isolation or maybe with one other inmate. They won’t allow him to be with the other inmates. That dude is going to spend his remaining days on this planet in an cinder block room with a mail slot to get a food tray 3 times a day. My guess is that he’ll hang himself with a bedsheet before he makes the 5 year mark.

Maybe, but I’ve been around a lot of people getting fricked up over the years, and I just don’t believe that someone could be totally blacked out impaired and it not be MORE than obvious. The jury apparently didn’t think she was obliterated and unable to make the decision to commit this act. Also, I’m inclined to believe that she played a part in getting the victim in the situation, either by setting up the encounter or participating in spiking the drink or whatever they did.

Not with Ambien. My momma will cook an entire meal and have an hour long conversation and not recall any of it. She has driven in her sleep state. She has had sex in her sleep state.
Ambien is some crazy shite.

Considering that I'm only aware of one case in the 19th JDC in the last decade in which a judge issued a post judgement verdict of acquittal, I'm going to say slim to none.
I love it when you guys hear one extreme outlier story and then pretend as though that's the norm.

Considering he rejected their request to allow her to get her affairs in order and her children taken care of before sentencing, I’d say zero bc he revoked bond and had her cuffed immediately.
I feel awful for her kids bc their daddy committed suicide after her arrest and now they’re losing their mom.
