I hate megachurches.

Small town churches are where Gods work is done.

Don't go down this road because you will soon be staring Obama and his "résumé" right in the eyes.

Years ago I lived in a small town in north Louisiana. One of the biggest churches in town was the Pentecostal church. The minister and his wife both drove Lincoln Continental Town Cars. Their congregation members had no problem with that. I always found that absurd.

The prosperity preachers have tapped into the greed that lives in all our hearts and found a way to exploit it.
They preach that If one has enough faith, they too can have wealth and riches.
Funny thing though, this is totally unscriptural and the exact opposite of how Jesus or the disciples lived or advocated.

I don't see the issue.

People are making a free choice with their time and money.

Is everyone in here going to tell me you don't spend money on stupid shite?

Why the frick would they care?

Jesus, this board is full of socialist pussies. The congregation has decided to pay this guy a big salary. They think the job he does is worth it. Quit obsessing over what other people get paid. It's no one else's goddamn business but theirs and their employers.

I probably could live a good life on 10% of his salary. I’m sure it’s more than what I’m living on now. Don’t really see the sacrifice when they already have millions.

I care in the same way that I would care about a bunch of mentally disabled people being scammed out of their money.

I can assure you I am the furthest thing form a socialist pussy. I just found it crazy that this preacher was living large on the backs of hard working people who supported his lifestyle. Here’s another one for you...he was opposed to people owning TV sets because of the “filth and garbage being pumped in their homes”. Yet, he owned a huge console TV. I know this because I sold it to him.
I think these mega church pastors are taking advantage of people.
And for the sake of full disclosure, I am a Christian who attends church regularly.

I respect everyone's views and at times I wish I had stronger faith, but when we talk about the bible, don't forget... The bible was put together what? 400 - 500 years after Jesus supposedly died?

And while I don't know all the details, there were scriptures that were left out for whatever reason. And over 400 - 500 years, what other factors played into the whole process that can make people feel confident that what the bible is today is from original content that was created 400- 500 years before it was put together?

And another thing that I always ask when discussing religion is.. Who is right? I think it's reasonable to look look at other religions... Jewish, Muslims, Sikh, etc In each religion Jesus is viewed a different way. Who is to say these people are right and those people are wrong?

A few corrections:

1. There were several canonizations of scripture over a long period of time. All were done well within 400 years of Jesus’ life.
2. The Hebrew Bible was used as Scripture at the time of Jesus and that was canonized well before Jesus
3. You have the logic wrong on how canonization works. A group of guys didn’t get together and just “decide” what to leave out “just because”. The books under consideration in the first place were ALREADY in wide use throughout the church which is one of the main reasons they were brought into the cannon. Many of the books that were left out either came after the cannon and were never under consideration or were clearly contradictory compared to what was in the original Hebrew cannon.

Bottom line is there were several factors over a long period of time by several people that determined the current biblical cannon. It wasn’t some suddenly arbitrary decision.

Think about it for a second: in a time when people disagreed on just about everything and killed each other over the silliest of things, the final biblical canon has been widely accepted across almost every Christian faith which in itself is a miracle.

If he’s paid a salary, the pastor is paying taxes.

What I always wondered. Did Jesus have to be born in a manager because the area was crowded for Saturn's Day? Or was it Hanukkah? Why were the Inns all booked?
