"Obamacare" is NOT an insurance plan. When the affordable care act was passed it was a setup of guidelines that insurance companies had to adhere too and created the market place. This idea originally came from the Heritage foundation and was adopted by Mitt Romney in Mass.
After it was passed and before congressional republicans kept chipping away at it - it was slowing the rate at which health care costs was rising. After it was neutered we have returned to the time before and exponential rising costs and worse care.

In MS if your son has an AGI of 16,000 he qualifies for a federal premium subsidy of 486 per month.
I just ran a BCBS of LA quote for a 21 year old.
An HMO is 396 to 605 per month.
A real Health Insurance policy is 543 to 827.

Its going up because care is more expensive, people are using more of it, and carriers are trying to make the math work. It’s not really about which party’s in charge — this was baked into the system years ago and was bound to hit eventually. Getting rid of illegals will help greatly but you won't see those benefits immediately.
Look at that - read this and you will see whats wrong with the world today.
Someone is trying to pass their opinion off as fact when the factual information is out there easily to be found.
It's going up because Republicans have continuously eroded away the Affordable Care Act so we are slowly reverting to a time before more Americans had insurance. Insurance companies are there to make money not keep you healthy.
Illegals do no contribute to the cost of health care they pay taxes into a system they cannot receive benefits from

That's why WGAF about the 3% inflation numbers the government touts when a family of 4 is paying 30K+ for health insurance.
Add in car INS, prop tax + INS, that is $40K+ in after tax income gone right off the bat.

Because it was amazing before ACA.
There is nothing comparable today.

In my previous post regarding your sons potential federal premium subsidy of 486 per month I failed to mention that with an annual income of 16,000 he will also qualify for a 94% CSR aka Cost Sharing Reduction. This means that 94% of the policies out of pocket costs (deductibles, Co-Insurance, Co-Pays etc.) will be reduced leaving you with a only few hundred in potential annual out of pocket costs.
With a subsidy you would only have a 48.00 per month premium and basically nothing out of pocket considering plans today average 8500.00 annual out of pocket costs.
Keep in mind though that for him to qualify for a premium subsidy you can't claim him as dependent anymore at tax time. I'm assuming that if you're paying the health insurance for a 21 year old he must be a student.

Im a Registered Independent (#humblebrag) so im not gonna sit here and blame either party like some numbnuts loser .
What I’ll say is that ive been pissed at Obama ever since 2009.. the ACA (Obamacare) is total arse, and always has been .. but imo the problem lies with Mr Obama himself, and his advisors.. when beginning the process of “fixing” healthcare in America circa 16 or 17 years ago, Obama, being the centrist he is, started negotiations in the middle. THAT was his big mistake.. he should have started far far FAR on the left, he should have proposed Single Payer, or Universal healthcare or Medicare for All or whatver label you want to give it.. he should have known Republicans would automatically drag everything to the right, and Obama’s mistake was operating in good faith.. this is why we got the mess called Obamacare that’s done nothing but enrich insurance companies even more .
The only answer is to do like every other developed country on Earth and have universal healthcare.. god forbid your taxes go up, but if i still lived in America id be thrilled to pay higher taxes so that everyone can be covered.. Will never happen though .

And the country still waits for some kind of repeal and replace option. Blame whoever you want. Bottom line is nothing has been done and ultimately like any corporation the buck stops with the CEO.

So based your 1st post of stating you started purchasing the plan for him when he was 15 years old, that would put him at around 24-25 years old.
He is now an adult. He needs to find a job that offers health insurance or the least he can do is to start paying for it himself.

go to the hospital for a few days and you will understand.
Insurance companies are getting richer and so are the doctors and medical equipment suppliers, and big pharma, too.
It is a mess, period.

Doctors are not getting rich off of this. Payors have seen record profits, though. Repeatedly. I’m talking shattering records.

My insurance went up like 6 bucks a paycheck. Instead of my premium being 150 its now 156. I guess having insurance through your work is not bad.
