What? All of the fear mongering about this being the next pandemic and more lockdowns coming is coming from the "right", or some segment of it.

outside of a handful of “right” posters on this website? who?

I mean all the conspiracy people on my socials are going nuts over it

and its not a "handful" of posters

every thread about this is full of "I ain't doing this again" type posts when literally no one is saying we are about to go on lockdowns again

That is not a fair characterization.

PK shared an NBC News (shitty Leftist rag) article pushing the idea that hantavirus should be taken more seriously, based on the opinions of a small group of likely cherry picked experts. The vote ratio are no doubt odd, but it is quite a stretch to claim those 20 upvotes mean people on this board suddenly agree with NBC’s framing. Nope.

People are still allowed to notice the same media and political machinery that paved the way for all the last insanity. The “I am not doing this again” response is not fear mongering. It is pattern recognition and snark, which is completely logical.

It’s funny how many posters are virology experts, talking about incubation periods and such. These posters should stick to constitutional law.

Why frame it this way? So weird.

The pattern recognition of all medical experts saying this isn't going to be another pandemic?

Its wishcasting. Some of these people actively want bad things to happen. It validates their anger and fear.

Sigh. The pattern is not “this will definitely become a pandemic.” The pattern is media hype, expert theater, and moralizing concern every time there is a remotely scary sounding virus.

People saying “I am not doing this again” are not wishcasting / fear mongering / whatever else you want to call it. They are rolling their eyes at a script they already know by heart.

Can you provide some examples?

If they were just "rolling their eyes" at it, they wouldn't argue so adamantly that bad things are coming.

You might just be rolling your eyes at it, but I think you are unwilling to admit how some people desire shared misery.

quite the smug dodge.

Not everyone mocking the hysteria “desires shared misery.” Some people just have a functioning memory. They saw the same media and expert theater before (Swine Flu, COVID variant a,b,c,d,e,f, MonkeyPox, Hantavirus).

Being snarky and saying, “frick that shite” does not prove they want bad things to happen. It just means they are tired of being manipulated by the same script.

Didn't say everyone.

What "expert theater" are you talking about here in regards to hanta?

Again. Every single article is telling them that there is little to no chance of this turning into a pandemic.

How are they being manipulated by a script?

I just listed multiple examples of prior virus scares that were plainly blown out of proportion, and you came back with “what script?”

got it

You are deliberately muddying the point. My argument is that the media has repeatedly shown it loves fear based health coverage, and people on this board are reacting to that pattern with skepticism and sarcasm. Flippantly framing posters in this thread as participating in a “conspiracy theory echo chamber” is just a cheap way to avoid engaging my point, that the media has earned the distrust.
