Measure of Wealth and Success
The measure of wealth and success is relative and what you make of it.

How many people here consider themselves successful and/or wealthy...by your own definition?

I’ve always thought success is being the best at what is the most important to you. My relationships in life are the most important thing to me and I try to be the best at that. I’ve done well so I think I’m successful.

Wealth is a different story. Definition of wealth to me is the ability to live the life you want for the rest of your life. I’m not there yet. I’m living my best life but can’t say it will last forever.

What says you?

Happiness is the only success measure worth caring about. If you are wealthy and miserable, you failed.

Life is a series of competitions.

You either win or lose.

Don’t be a loser.

re: Measure of Wealth and Success
I came from a family of 5, household income of <$50k, and immigrant family. My measure of success is doing better for myself and my family than my upbringing. Bottom line.

My parent did the best they could. Saved for college to help a little. Paid for every extracurricular they could. Couldn’t have asked for better. But hey, I had to go to public school and borrow for college.

Key is extracting the hunger and work ethic in my children so that I’m not raising some sissy shits who don’t appreciate what they have. There’s a balance

re: Measure of Wealth and Success
I’ve met happy people across the spectrum

Abject poverty . Like dirt poor with no chance of being rich... like ever. And they were happy

I’ve known some of the wealthiest people in the country and they were happy but different. Less carefree. They were happy though. Wife, kids all the toys ... and happy.

What I see in common is a grounding. I see an appreciation of what the basic gift we have as humans called life. Not everyone gets it.

Life is a gift and if you take it for granted, you’ll be miserable

Money is not the answer but it is also not a curse. But it can be.

I knew a guy who was filthy rich and he took his own life. Like why?
I think it was because he tied it all to wealth and once he had wealth.... it was over

Very well said. I feel the same about being a good person.

Fair points. But happiness is different than success or wealth. I’ve known people that were successful and not happy. And happy people that weren’t wealthy.

Happiness is a different animal. That not the question. Do you consider yourself successful or wealthy? What does that mean to you?

Fair enough. So happiness is your success. What is happiness to you and are you happy/successful?

Life is a journey, not a destination.

Most of the time the fight to the top is significantly more satisfying than actually being at the top.

It's not about having what you want.

It's about wanting what you have.

Wealth actually has nothing to do with money, but with having the abilities /things (besides money) in abundance that actually make you happy, secure, and relaxed in the ability of these things to take care of you and your family.
