Sid has kinda sucked so far.
Sid Edwards was never supposed to be the mayor. Woody Jenkins talked him into and we thank Woody for that. Because the alternative was SWB. Woody himself couldn't win an election to save his life because he can't see the forest from the trees. From what I can tell Sid has any number of people who have their own ideas giving them to him and he is running with whatever because he himself probably thought he never had a chance to be mayor. To be fair to Sid he inherited a shite sandwich. It's probably like Trump's first term - he doesn't know the system and he doesn't know what he is doing. He relies on people who may or may not have his best interest at heart. He has all of these johnny come latelys with all their great ideas. Then there is the embedded bureaucracy. This is the negative to a non politician being elected.

Sid is 2000 times better than any of the alternatives. At the very least, he is working with St George to get the city funded and off the ground. At most, he has neutered the Gary Chambers types in town and the racial rhetoric that was so pervasive in Brooke’s tenure is basically gone. Give the man some time to make his mark. I’m still pulling for him to succeed.

Me and my buddies are packing our bags to come visit during football season.
Hopefully my boss lets us stay the rest of the season. Maybe we’ll be able to lower crawfish prices.

It would require help from the outside that's 100% unaffiliated to the local politics of this town.
Wagner Group, maybe?

I don’t think Sid has stepped foot anywhere south of Florida Blvd since he’s taken office

The ThriveEBR plan is basically what will make or break the mayor's term IMO.
His hands are tied right now when it comes to doing basically anything that people want to see happen in EBR because all the funding is either pre-dedicated by past votes or pre-spent by the last mayor. For years people around EBR have been asking for a plan to fund the things they want to see prioritized while either lowering the overall tax burden or at a minimum not increasing it.
The ThriveEBR plan does the latter. It's not perfect but IMO it's a hell of a lot better than any proposals we've seen in the last 10+ years because it's at least a realistic plan with a realistic possibility of passing and succeeding.

Kids are out of control, when I was young my dad put that belt on my arse if I was out of line. Nowadays you go to jail for it.
Totally not true. You can spank your kids, just can't beat them.

I recommend bringing military in and implementing stop and frisk. Need to throw these wannabe gangsters in Angola. Let them be gangster there so they can finally accomplish their dreams of being hard. Sid- if you’re listening we need more cages for these worthless people.

Mayor Sid - Not working against us, but not working for us.

The absolute sh!tshow he inherited, what were you really expecting? The city had been laundering money out of St. George area for decades. Broome left a city that is so screwed financially coupled with a woke DA, and Woke police force and woke city council.
And yes, the library money was a big deal. We have the largest library budget per capita in the United States. The Broome administration was using it as a political slush fund while stealing money from St. George.
BR residents have no idea how close to bankruptcy this city is, but they have a billion dollar library system.
The answer is arrest and lock up criminals and prosecute. The citizenry will fight you tooth and nail if you do and the majority of your police are not interested in that anymore because they cannot afford to go to jail.

“Give people hope, get them out of despair, get them out of poverty, and we are working on that as well through the school system, through early childhood education. That’s all a part of it, but those are seeds that we are going to plant that we won’t see — at least I won’t sit under the shade of that tree, but we have to do that as well,” he said.
This is all good and well, but we have been "planting seeds of hope" through early childhood education for decades and decades and decades...and decades. Until people in charge honestly consider that being a thug is a choice and a culture, and and dare I say actually celebrated, they will never ever solve it. Tough love is the only answer here.
Schools themselves are part of the problem. These young thuglets are allowed to act like complete a-holes and terrorize entire schools. They are never removed unless they basically commit a felony at school or after nonstop "interventions" and documentation. There is a lackluster alternative schooling situation, and the bad apples spoil the entire bunch.
I'm sorry if I sound harsh, but it should have taken ONE generation to pull these people out of their poverty and despair. It just takes students putting their heads down and trying to better themselves. This is not complicated. Zero personal responsibility.
At some point, this city has to say enough is enough and just start stacking people in prison. Why on earth is anarchy allowed to rule our lives? It's so sad.

they have a billion dollar library system.
Sid can have the money but he needs to put it up for a vote - the proper and legal way.

Seriously who thinks curfew is going to fix an out of control violent crime problem?
Curfews are a tool. They can only work if the cops are willing to enforce them appropriately. Even then, other factors come into play.

Just so the judges can let them out on 500 bail and they can commit more crimes? It's an issue across the board. I don't disagree with your statement, but there's more variables involved.
