BRPD is way down on manpower and a bunch are retiring

They are short around 150 officers. That's 20% short of full staffing. Almost every department in the US is down. Low morale, low pay and shitting administrations all contributions to the problem.

Wouldn't a curfew give the cops more opportunity to stop the disadvantaged youths and ask questions?

Seriously who thinks curfew is going to fix an out of control violent crime problem?

Well it does give police a good legal reason to stop and check you out.

If I were a rich man, I would start a free boarding school to send the low income youth in the wilderness from K-18 years old to curve the crime problem in urban Baton Rouge. No television, no phones. Just books, music instruments , sports, job skills training, art classes. Along with good ole reading, writing and arithmetic.
Pretty much like a hogwarts for poor children. Get them out of the ghetto to break the cycle for a generation or 2 .

Then an educated class can take over the population.

Maybe by putting more cops on the street. As has been done in the FQ and in DC. This isn’t difficult. More police on patrol will discourage unlawful behavior.

And where do we get these police from? Do they just magically appear?

Nobody worth a frick wants to be a police officer in shitty BR for $40k/year.

Oh wait, we do know who all the criminals are. Virtually all of them.

You forget the "peace summits" between fuggin GANG leaders and the Police.

Dunno if y'all do that, but the biggest city near me sure as hell does.

Here's a link to The State Newspaper (Columbia, SC) headlining such, Richland SC gang ambassadors to meet with police to prevent shootings

I don't think Sid actually planned on winning. He's the dog that caught the car.

Being BR Mayor is a shitty enough job. But being mayor right after St George left, taking all their tax revenue... I'm surprised he hasn't called a press conference and been like "frick all this bullshite."

I don't live there, but were there better choices on the ballot?

What should he do and how will it get passed and paid for?

This. I have no idea what anyone expects the new mayor to do about this bad fact.

Flooding the streets with more cops is great; if he has the resources to do that. And then it takes judges and prosecutors to out them away, and those are not under mayoral control.

What possibly can he do to overcome the fatal demographics?

I have no idea why Sid would want that job as Mayor.

Sid's administration = Woody Jenkins. Dude is irrelevant and this is his only way to stay relevant.

Congrats. You just did more to address the current situation than Sid has done since he was sworn in.

This is a major issue.

But an even bigger issue are judges that continue to let these animals back on the street. You can have the largest, most efficient police force in the world, but if every time you arrest a violent offender, a fat female judge lets them off the hook, you aren’t going to make much of a difference.
