Honestly, if they would been given the school district/control of the school system that they asked for initially, this wouldn’t be happening.
Yup.
If Broome et al want to be mad at someone, they should be made at the EBR Schools, for ...
1) Sucking
2) When St George wanted their own district, running to the legislative to get it blocked
3) When given the opportunity to bring more resources to St George, telling them to GFY.
Yeah, letting St. George ISD form might have caused a little pain to the EBR school system. But it's peanuts compared to what the city-parish will lose to a new city government in St. George.

I'd guess the lion share of parish contracts go to Barber Brothers, Boh Brothers, Whstton/Smith and other highway and sewer contractors. Those type companies, engineering companies and insurance companies and trash and garbage companies.

has Rep. Marcelle come up with a catchy Keep BR Together T shirt?

She can’t even spell unity without help. The most divisive, racist Mayor of my lifetime and she wants to talk unity?? She needs to just admit it’s going to hurt her continuing to rob from the rich to give to the poor

frick her. With rusty barbed wire.

So will St George become like Denham Springs and Prairieville?

St George will become more like Napa and/or the island of Ibiza.

I'm just over the constant bullshite with this city bro. Everyone of them want a fricking handout. Oh poor us oh poor us. Give give give give. The white people hate us. Oh muh mayor broome we love you so much because you give us everything. Yeah, watch that debacle go down when St. George is flourishing. The place will literally burn to the ground.

When is the vote? Nov 2019?
Posted on 2/28/19 at 5:51 pm to Deactived
It probably is true but that has nothing to do with the reasoning for St George. Nobody will change their mind over that contract line

She should have been more fiscally responsible with the parish funds.
Everything she does needs a study or extra people to manage the job. She needs to trim the fat and mange the parish finances better.
The problem with services like DPW which is a great example. The parish is so large they cannot keep up with the demand for the services along with being bloated with too many supervisors and not enough workers.
Having smaller cities in this parish that are fiscally responsible will provide these services a lot better than dealing with a bloated DPW dept.
If someone voted for me for Mayor President I would not need to request more funding to hire people to do my job or hire outside firms to do a study for every decision. People who would vote for me would be under the impression that I would make these decisions that benefit the majority of the parish myself.
We also do not need to be in the grocery store business in food desert. The majority of the people in this parish did not run your area down to the point no grocery store can be profitable. Sometimes people that live in the area need to take responsibility for their area.

Is the bolded part true?
quote:It might be. I don't know. But what I do know is that that has nothing to do with St. George, because St. George has never been apart of the city of BR in the first place. So how could they be taking contracts for businesses located in BR?
When it seems that blacks are going to get a fair shake it’s somehow wrong. 98% of contracts in Baton Rouge go to white owned firms, not 60% not 70% not 80% but 98% of contracts go to companies that look like the majority on the council, not the majority of the city.

Let’s talk about how the proposed City of St. George is just another form of legalized segregation.
According to a realtor website, there are currently 281 homes for sale in the 70817 zip code alone. This is right in the heart of St. George. As far as I know, it is illegal to discriminate in the sale or purchase of any property, so as long as they are able to afford the note, anyone with the money is more than welcome and able to move in. I wasn't a history major, but I didn't think this was the case during the segregation era.

Equity, not equality. People want equal results, not equal opportunities. Notice the shift in vocabulary on this

BR has been run by black politicians for years - logically it is more likely that there is a massive lack of reputable black businesses to contract with than Broome, Kip, and the council being raciss

Broome is paying (paid) 300k for a study to find out
Business Report 4/18
quote:
While the diversity in small business seminars are underway, the administration is also contracting with a consulting firm to study how often government contracts are awarded to local small businesses as well as businesses owned by women, minorities and veterans.
Earlier this year, the Metro Council approved $300,000 to fund a consulting contract to conduct the study. Amoroso says he pushed to add language that includes small businesses in the study, which originally was going to only look at the participation rate of women-, minority- and veteran-owned businesses.
