False. Even as a liberal, I think Mitch is a damn idiot.
Mitch wants to force poor, black people to report a stolen firearm to the very entity that is responsible for terrorizing their neighborhoods and destroying their families by shooting their children.

Landrieu is using guns much like he is using the whole monuments BS. He knows Hildabeast is strongly anti gun, so he's using both issues to wrangle himself a position in her administration since he is term limited. He has no chance at any elected State position and he knows it. His only hope is in D.C.

Mayor Landrieu to propose mandatory reporting of stolen guns...
...then raises taxes to employ a larger police force to handle all of the stolen gun claims.
Brilliant

The proposed law would require private gun owners to call the police in the event their firearms are stolen, within 48 hours of discovery, according to sources familiar with the ordinance. Law enforcement officials said that better reporting of stolen guns would help them track illegal firearms that are fueling street crime.

So what exactly is the problem with this. I see his point.
The point is that it is foolishness. Any normal person is gonna report a gun theft. Any criminal in possession of a gun is not gonna report a damn thing.
This is just more feel-good pablum for the illiterate masses.

Because they may find a reason to charge the gun owner with some obscure crime.

Checkmate, gun thieves.

Who doesn't report stolen guns?
I'm pretty sure a police report is required to file an insurance claim for stolen property.
Pure idiocy.

Typical grandstanding politician...
Typical example of the severe mental retardation behind gun-control advocacy. This law will accomplish exactly nothing in terms of its stated goals. All this will do is allow the howling lunatics that believe VPC and Brady Campaign talking points to claim some nonexistent victory in their culture war against gun ownership in the US. These laws, once shown to be ineffective, just embolden their supporters to seek more laws to fix the problems they'll claim kept this one from being effective.

Does he guarantee an officer will come take the report within 48 hours on this non-emergency call?
Because those response times are an actual safety issue that needs addressing

Am I wrong or is his goal to try and eliminate the "loop hole" of someone saying that their gun was stolen months ago when the gun is found after a murder (and ballistics match that gun)?

This grandstanding of such a toothless proposal is such bullshite its hilarious.

I'm confused now how is a responsible NOPD officer supposed to use his throwaway gun on a suspect now? The NOPD surely can't report they lost their throwaway gun on suspect X while planting evidence on him or can they? Perhaps the ordinance will give us some clarity on this issue.

HEYYYYY, why don't we give immunity for anyone turning in unregistered guns???
Wait, do it like Election Days in NOLA, have school buses canvass the neighborhoods and hand out Popeyes two piece meals to anyone doing as they're told.
