We just bought or new matress from mattress firm.

We looked at all the online options and it was too risky for us. Sure they give you 100 nights risk free, but I read countless reviews for each online option we considered and there was always a small but significant amount of people that said the mattress was incredible for about a year and then went to shite.

We ended buying the same mattress we already had, just in a king. They were doing a labor day sale too so the price was actually right in line with the leesa sapira, and way cheaper than a purple.

Buying a sandwich and a mattress is not comparable. Very few people will drive more than a few minutes for a sandwich, stores aren’t cannibalizing each other. There’s absolutely no reason to have more than two or three of the same mattress stores within a few miles of each other. That’s just silly.

So they're closing 0.003% of their stores?

Didn't they have some scandal recently where they were manipulating real estate prices? I thought that it was determined that they were more of a real estate company. Something like that. There are 3 within 1/2 mile of each other near me, two are literally across the street from one another. Always seemed weird but I have bought two mattresses from them so I guess it worked.

Some ask reddit thread had a top rated comment about mattress firm. I believe the comment hypothesized the company was really just a money smuggling operation. It got deleted by reddit.

Do people actually go to mattress only places to buy them? I get mine from Sams or Costco, way better quality for 1/5 the price.

Ive always thought their plan was to eventually pick the most successful stores out of each bunch and lease out the remaining buildings that they own. They put nothing into the buildings and a Verizon, etc can move right in.

There are two Mattress Firms on one street in Lafayette. I was driving through town for lunch the other day and saw that, and remember thinking, why the hell do we need two of these stores much less two on one street?

Any other business people have a problem with this? “We made some bad business decisions so we want the Courts to help us to frick over people who did business with us in good faith.” In the next breath they announce they plan to open new locations and expand. Seems like the Judge would say Nope to that.

I mean, that's been going on as long as Ch 11 has been around. Usually the companies aren't so blunt about it, though...

You can get a mattress for the same price, delivered, and use it for 6 months and get a full refund if you don't like it.

The appeal of the mattress store has always been, hey, you can lay on it.

But does laying on it for 30 seconds, in street clothes, really tell you anything?

Once more people realize this, the stores are all going to start to collapse.

Does that refund policy work if you finance the mattress through the company? If so, that would really help this take off. I think people shy away from the online thing because they think they need to pay for it upfront, sight unseen.

I'm actually struggling with this, but with living room furniture. My wife keeps finding all these great deals on sofas and chairs online, but I keep thinking i need to go sit on them first.

Yes, most of them.

I have a friend that tried out 5 different mattress companies. They all delivered, him and his wife slept on them for a few weeks, then they got a full refund.

They did this until they found the right one.

Mattresses have one of the highest markups of any product. They only need to sell a couple of mattresses a month to break even.

Nope, be careful who you lease to. Also, they let their tenant put obnoxious flags/signs and homeless people in front of their stores - often in very nice areas. They knew what they were doing.
