Shut up, engineer.

Are we relying on faith to determine the sum of three numbers?

Also, dividing six by three and one by three are different problems.

It is not different. Both are exactly divisible by 3.

The accountants answer is better.
Accountant gets up and closes the door.
What do you need the answer to be?
I'm here all day

We're relying on 1/3 = 0.333 repeating

Right, but I don’t care how many times it repeats, 3+3+3 is always 9.
.333
+ .333
+ .333

.999

But you agree 1/3 = .333 repeating right?
And 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 always equals 1.
The problem is really .333 repeating is an approximation because we can't make a decimal exact to 1/3.

3 1/3
3 1/3
3 1/3
9+3/3= 10
Tards
3 1/3
3 1/3
9+3/3= 10

Nah, the right biblical answer is you have to cut the kids in half, easy answer, it adds up, and the bitchin stops.

A very similar paradox was discovered by Greeks. Look into Zeno's various paradoxes which all deal with infinities like this.
Turns out you need calculus to solve it, specifically infinitesimal calculus. The calculus hadn't yet been discovered in those days.
You solve this with "limits" in calculus, which should be something any student will take in college calculus.

Are there really a bunch of you folks who if I gave you something measured into 10 units and asked you to divide it in thirds that don't know you can use a different unit to measure?
Seriously?

That's my thinking. Theoretically you can have three equal thirds. In reality it's impossible.

For whatever it’s worth, it’s pretty easy to show that 0.99999... repeating is exactly equal to one. Not very close, they are the same number.
