Going his year after years of disappointment and frustration. Just kidding. But I am excited....
I have one day in the corse with my friends and I want to plan ahead on seeing everything and getting the opportunity to watch the Par 3 contest at a good spot.
Is there anything else taking place that I should make sure to check out?
Staying in Columbia SC
Anybody have any suggestions?

Where a Sandwich Board sign that says, "Clifford Roberts and Bob Jones were gay lovers".
Right to free speech, bro

Get there as early as they'll let you in. Go immediately to the merch shop and buy everything you want. There is a check stand where they'll hold it for you while you're there. You can grab it on your way out. If you wait til later to do that, the lines will be insane. Spend the morning on the big course. Start at 10 and go through the back 9 first, then the front. The big tree behind the club house is good for people watching. In the afternoon, find a good spot on the Par-3 course to post up where you can see multiple holes of the par 3 contest. We sat between 5 tee and green. It was a good spot, because there are concessions and restrooms through the trees right behind you, the players have to walk really close to you to get to the green, and you get to see 3 green, all of 4, all of 5 and all of 6 from there. Arnie gave us a smile and a thumbs up in 2013. RIP.
Hooters is a great place to hang out. They ship in A-flight talent from all over. John Daly will be hocking merch in the parking lot. T-Bonz is the place to be for dinner to see people I hear. We didn't make it there though.

Also - Partridge Inn bar if you are sticking around that night.

The suggestion to hit the Merchandise tent early is a good one. I don't think because the lines will be longer later. Mainly for the limited space to check your merchandise so you don't have to walk around with it all day.

I T-Off at 11:34 am Wednesday, watch for me.
My bag has "The Torch" on it.

A pleasant surprise awaits in the concessions tent:

2nd the Partridge Inn. If you are going out out, there is a club in a strip mall that is off the chain during Masters week.

I had this question as well, I'm glad you've asked it.
I've been on Thursday and Friday before and it's pretty straightforward. I agree that you get your merchandise, you walk the course, then you watch golf.
I have two questions.
With it being a practice round, how do you know where to go to watch someone? Do you just wander around the course hoping to pass someone playing their practice round?
When do you migrate to the par 3 course? Do you have to be there for the start? Can you walk up in the middle and still find a decent spot?

They have boards posted showing who's on the course and what time they went off. They will go off the back and the front.

We did it about 12;30

No

We did. All spots are decent because of how close you get to the players.

The tickets I was supposed to get fell through. Very disappointed.

Will be in Augusta Thursday night. Is the bar open to non-staying guests?

Where are some of the better places to drop a chair on the course? Would like to leave our chairs then walk the course.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Well, I thought it was funny.

Scream "Get in The Hole" after every shot, especially drives on par 4's.

Went last year on Wednesday, and I was there on Monday in 2012. Definitely get there early. They'll let you in the giftshop before the time it states the gates open on the ticket (I believe 8:00). We were parked before 7:00 and in the giftshop by 7:15-7:30, bought all of our stuff then actually walked it back to the car because it was close enough since we got there early. By the time we got back to the course, it was only 8:30 or so.
Speaking of parking, try to park by the entrance that gets you into the course by #13. That's the south gate on this map (although I don't remember it being named that last year). We turned off Washington Rd next to the Publix, and it led us right where we wanted to be. There's a large gift shop near Berckman's place that isn't nearly as crowded as the one by the main entrance. Then when you walk onto the course, you enter right next to 13 green/14 tee. If it's your first time there, it's a sight you won't forget.
Last tip...the players aren't allowed on the big course after 3:00 or so on Wednesday, but I would definitely recommend walking around again after the par 3 is over. My buddies and I were the only ones on a few holes on the second 9 around 5:00 PM. You can get to within 3-5 feet of a couple of the greens. It was a pretty surreal experience, so I highly suggest it.
