People can’t be serious defending the New Orleans incompetence.

New Orleans is installing bollards on the sidewalk before the Super Bowl. Which means they understood the security risk. But they didn’t block the sidewalk that they admit is a security risk on the biggest bourbon street night leading up to the Super Bowl.

It’s not Monday morning quarterbacking. Anyone who isn’t a smooth brain knows cars can drive on sidewalks.

There are raise bollards that can be installed on the sidewalks. It’s so fricking simple and basic.

Pretty sure that would be an ADA violation.

Cant block sidewalks restricting wheelchair accessibility.

Besides, there are ways to deny vehicle access to vehicles on sidewalks temporarily during huge events.

yes..there are many permanent and temp installations that a target such as NOLA should have employed

like airline travel ,, public events will be and should be handled differently moving forward

but the focus will be elsewhere for now and NOLA better have different plans for the SuperBowl or the game will be moved

Add in that Hostile Vehicle Mitigation barriers can be rented for large events too.

Was this a dry run for what they (ubiquitous they) have planned for the Super Bowl?

NOLA needs to nail the Super Bowl or it’s over. They couldn’t keep the electricity working in one of their recent Super Bowls and now the events having UGA and ND fans deal with the cost and travel inconvenience of a delayed game. Tickets are $20 on StubHub now not a good look.

NOLA is on thin ice.

No idea. But Super Bowl security is on another level. 10 more levels actually.

There are some many guys and gals undercover from all sorts of federal agencies.

I met some that were doing security for The Players golf tournament in Ponte Vedra.

Dude was in shorts and looked like just another golf fan.

NYC lines trucks up for time square. Seen the same at the Houston rodeo

It’s not like a Muslim driving a truck into a crowd is a novel concept.

I don’t think it’s asking the government much to have more than half arse a safety measure that completely failed its intended purpose

Yea, NO has never hosted a huge event! Damn government and and a loving God should have done more to prevent the evil actions of a mad man. Government and God should be able to prevent all evil in the world!

Bourbon street is a long street with a ton of intersections. Going after the city for not being able to block every single possible entry point including sidewalks is dumb as frick

It’s what, 8? 10? Intersections of gridlock traffic?

It’s really bizarre that so many are acting like it’s an insurmountable threshold to block car access. It’s pretty basic, if you have any desire to accomplish it.

Sure the guy could’ve hit people outside those blocks but it’s just strange how many people are just throwing up their hands saying “but he drove on the sidewalk!” as if we don’t have protected sidewalks around basically every federal building downtown.

Every year during Mardi Gras, I can’t believe that cars are allowed to cross bourbon with the amount of pedestrians. Anywhere else such a high traffic area would be blocked off. It is a tragic situation, but a huge fail on city planning

Should NO block off every street/sidewalk that an evil person could drive down an kill and injure multiple people on New Years Eve? It happened on Bourbon St. last night but could have happened other places.

Genius a Bollard on a sidewalk can be placed with enough clearance for the handicapped. Not a FK automobile!!!! The responses on here are stifling!!!!!!

Stupid take. I don't understand why so many of you are carrying water for Teedy and this police chief.

The target was softened and the a-hole obviously knew.

Competent people plan for any circumstance, and they damn sure don't make less protection why trying to fix the protection they knew was inadequate.

The stupid take is thinking government can predict and prevent crazy people from killing people.

“Nah boss we good. Sure a truck can fit thru this but should be good. Our defense specifically to stop cars from driving down bourbon is good enough”
