Well before the flight to chicago at 6:23pm, the departure before that was at 3:41pm and that was a Qatar airways cargo flight to Pittsburgh? LINK
I know for all regions in the US there are different cities that pilots talk to before finally talking to the tower for arrival. If departing, they could talk to the atl tower then chat with air traffic control in a neighboring city to make sure they were on the right course. Let me see if I can find the ATL tower radio.
ETA: Here's a link to the ATL tower radio where you can listen to arrivals, departures, clearance, etc. All the feeds are down currently though... LINK

I’m hearing nationwide ground stop on all domestic flights to and from Atlanta.
eta: at a friend’s place and he said he read it on cnn. He has been drinking though.

They're evacuating the airport? Wow... Not sure the lights will be back on within the next few hours either

This flight from dusseldorf (DL 91) landed around 4pm but is estimated to get to a gate at 6:59pm according to Delta's site, that's almost 3 hours of waiting after a transatlantic flight... No thanks
This would be infuriating. I took a 10 hour flight from Paris to Atlanta last month. I couldn’t imagine sitting another 3 hours on the tarmac.

I hate passing through ATL simply because of all the delays. The airport is just too busy.
Same here. Their international arrivals is awful.

There's also flights like this one from Akron-ATL that landed at 1:49pm but didn't get to a gate until 5:18pm. That's about 3 1/2 hours on the tarmac for a flight that took an hr and a half. I'm sure there's several more flights still stuck, trying to find the worst tarmac delay
ETA: Uh oh, does anyone on here know someone who was on the 12:10pm Baton Rouge-ATL flight? They landed at 2:19pm EST but are estimated to get a gate at 7:30pm. That's over 5 hours... LINK

What do you think this means for a ATL-MSY flight on Tuesday night?
Posted on 12/17/17 at 6:28 pm to sloopy
Southwest, delta, or spirit? Southwest has some availability left but not much. Delta flights still showing Y9 for everything so that's a good sign (they're willing to sell at least 9 seats) plus the seat maps look extremely empty. Spirit availability looks good too
If you're on southwest and they're still having issues, I'd just buy a cheap delta ticket

Assuming the power is back on by late tonight or tomorrow morning, i think this is delta's second time in a few weeks of operations recovery so they should be mostly recovered by tuesday. May still be a few cancellations, but there's tons of seats for atl-msy so even if your flight does cancel you should be able to get on another DL flight

AJC is saying power on by midnight

Rebooked GSO to Charlotte to MOB.
Sat in an aircraft seat and pushing back.....what a cluster. I feel for those stuck in ATL. It will be 2 or 3 days soonest before traffic normalizes.

Youd think an airport like this would have backup systems in place for this
Posted on 12/17/17 at 7:16 pm to Cosmo
Apparently there are still 66 planes on the tarmac in ATL according to 11Alive newscast. It's been between 5-7 hours since those planes have arrived
ETA: Reports that terminal F/ international terminal has power back from ATL airport twitter. "Power on Concourse F is back ON! We are working with great urgency w/ @GeorgiaPower to restore power throughout rest of airport."

Dayum, you’d think a place of that scale and importance would have a shitload of backup power.
