If this goes on a few hours it is going to take a few days to sort out given crew duty rules and shuffling the gate positions there and flights all being around 90% full, like how the Delta computer outage took about 3 days to completely smooth out.

One more reason Atlanta needs to join the rest of the big cities in America and get another airport.

This will have a nasty ripple effect for the rest of the week as you said with crew and planes. Delta has already started cancelling flights for tomorrow, plus I've been reading there are a lot of international flights that have landed in ATL before the outage but don't have a gate to get to. If anyone needs help rebooking or finding flight availability, I'll be around with an expertflyer account. I would suggest signing up for the free trial if you're stranded somewhere currently

ETA: Oooh first delta flight in about 5 hours (excluding the charter flight) just took off. Only a 5 hour delay for 2809 to Chicago LINK

Too bad there probably isn't enough land for PDK because that is probably a near perfect location for the Love Field/Midway second airport.

I wonder how many planes are sitting there full of people.

This is a pretty big problem, thousands of flights are canceled or delated
Holy shite. So glad I'm not on one of those delated flights. Who turned them in?

This flight from dusseldorf (DL 91) landed around 4pm but is estimated to get to a gate at 6:59pm according to Delta's site, that's almost 3 hours of waiting after a transatlantic flight... No thanks

Delta succeeded in killing a private, commercial airport in Cobb county.

I hate passing through ATL simply because of all the delays. The airport is just too busy.

How are they letting planes land? Does the tower have electricity?

I hate ATL too. Always some bullshite when I go through there.

Maybe Delta and some other carriers will start looking into building some redundancy into their routes. Like maybe not route everything through one damn place.

, we need a live reporter from the OT at ATL to fill us in. There were just two flights taking off so there has to be some sort of communication to the tower

Or they’re letting a plane leave every 10 mins and just being very precautious? Is that even allowed? Certainly there wouldn’t be any in air collisions if they can be directed by another tower once airborne?

Delta has done everything politically to stop another airport.

They should just give up and let SWA build a Cobb County airport and be done with it.
