Looks like the 35 Texpress lane. Average speed is around 90 mph.

Agreed. Everyone knew this was coming for days. Driving home last night from my daughters vball practice and it was starting to rain. Rain/snow mix all night. Not sure why every office and school wasn’t closed last night. Our schools in Rockwall did close today, but no reason anyone should have been out on the roads this morning. There is ice everywhere.

People can make snarky comments and pretend like they are expert drivers, but they are full of shite. They’ve likely never experienced ice in North Texas. We’ve all seen videos of big pileups up north in heavy snow as well. Sometimes it happens.

The ice in DFW is nearly impossible to see on the roads. People could be more careful for sure, but like someone else said (except for the guy who drove 15 times across Kansas on a glacier), it’s impossible to drive on this ice.

There is also another 26 car incident in Austin this morning.

Yeah its not a common occurrence in the South, cities do not have de-icing capabilities. Just need to shut down for a day when this kind of weather is predicted.

Tons of ice up here this morning. I drove literally a tenth of a mile and almost got destroyed two separate times by ice skating cars. Turned my arse around and went home.

Sounds like Dallas. Full panic in any snow/sleet conditions. I once had a 3 hour commute home from work in the snow here that was a whopping 15 miles.

How about not driving fast when you know the temperature is borderline. If people knew this was coming, then why were they hauling arse down the interstate?

NTTA was putting chemical down Monday. Idk if that also included interstates as I dont think they are responsible for them.

Like I said, people should be more careful, but this isn’t like a snowstorm where you see it everywhere. This is long stretches where the roads are fine, then one area with ice that looks just like the road.

All of those truck drivers do nothing but drive for a living and they are all caught up in it as well.

People in the Republic of Texas' southern tier have no idea how to slow down and drive safely on ice.
It's been a long time since I lived in Texas, but when I was there my experience was that no matter the skill level of the driver -- good, bad, or nonexistent -- the one characteristic every Texas driver shares is an unshakeable belief that they are the only car on the road.

Really? I drove safely on ice Sunday from SW Kansas City to Wichita and that is after driving safely on snow and ice from Audobon, IA to SW Kansas City.

Ice is not an ideal driving surface, but it doesn't have to be dangerous.

You weren't driving on ice for those distances. No one can drive on ice...it's literally impossible to control a car on a sheet of ice without chains or something to gain traction.

Awful and scary.

Does Texas DOT have salt trucks? I know when I lived in Tulsa for a short while, they used sand on the roadways for winter weather which, really, was worthless. If Texas does have salt, they should've been out last night given a minor ice event was forecasted.

That stretch of 35 is a awful. Any sort of accident between Texas Motor Speedway to downtown Ft Worth causes a massive backup of traffic.

I was going to take that stretch to go do some shopping at the Costco in Alliance this morning. I saw the local TDOT report thank god before I left. I’d still be stuck in that shite
