Roads like Belt Line and Greenville
you can't take the first Belt Line exit(Mesquite?) and get to, say, the DFW airport or Arlington in the same day

It looks like he was the semi driver to me.
It does, he probably didn't have a seatbelt on and just flew threw the window.

I know this is going to sound crazy, but if you are stuck in a pile up like that would it be best to get out the vehicle? Just head towards the front of the wreckage so you aren't a sitting duck. Especially to keep safe from an 18 wheeler slamming into the back of you.
Negative, go to the side and back towards the oncoming traffic. That way, when the next vehicle hits, it happens ahead of you and you don't get hit with flying debris.
Same thing if you have to stop on interstate for a breakdown etc. Get out, go 100 feet behind you car and way off to the side.
I got rear ended on i10 once. Stopped for traffic, bitch behind me never touched her brakes in the 1000 ft she had to stop. I sat there after impact for about 3 seconds, then thought about an 18 wheeler crashing through. I scrambled out pretty fricking quick at that thought.

These videos are tragic and I regret watching them. I cannot fathom how the eighteen wheelers are moving at such extreme rates of speed when they must have seen or heard the accidents hundreds or thousands of yards ahead.

I think once they crested that little hill it was over, solid ice and no way to stop.
In one video you can see a pickup come over the hill backwards sliding and doing all he could to avoid the crash

If you think you can hear an impact thousands of yards ahead while in a moving vehicle I’d like some of what you are smoking.

Fricking crazy. Be careful out on the roads in Louisiana Tuesday morning, looking at the temperatures this could happen.

Holy shite that dude dodging the flying FJ cruiser in one of the videos is wild. I guess he had gotten out of his car and cross the concrete barrier but still almost got taken out by a flying car

The panhandle and parts of North Texas are used to dealing with this. It happens at least once or twice a year in these places. Not all of Texas is like Houston.

One of my biggest fears whenever I’m stopped and not moving in traffic for extended amount of time.
I’m scared that 1 idiot that’s not paying attention slams into me and then causes a chain reaction behind me. I watch in my rear view mirror but I’m not sure what I’d do other than try to relax and hold I survive.
I’ve always figured if this did happen and I could move I’d get out and get away and as far from the pile up as I could especially if I could get one the other side of a concrete barrier or some other obstacle

.it's literally impossible to control a car on a sheet of ice without chains or something to gain traction.
Happens all the time, ever heard of ice roads?
Big Lake, AK sets out road signs and makes roads across the lake in winter.

That's what you call mayhem I guess. Probably bad fog, but I still don't see how things get that fricked up. You need to keep your distance on the interstate and if you can't see out in front of you, slow down or pull off.
We had freezing rain, which made places on the highways slick as glass. Slick.
130+ vehicles. 6 dead now.
It was mayhem.

Most have never driven on black ice. Step on the brakes...welcome to no friction. You gonna keep on going in the same direction at the same velocity.

And come this summer. Along the beach states you’ll have standstill backups with many accidents looking.
I hate traveling on the interstate. They should be expanded across the entire median to alleviate some of the problems

I feel sick after watching those videos. If I were in that situation, I’d quickly look in my rear view to see if I had time to jump out and over the concrete barrier before someone plowed into me. If not, I’m bracing for impact. Nothing else you can do.

Can't steer either. You can see the FedEx truck doing everything he can to get it sideways and it just won't move.
