First, I googled "spirit day tigerdroppings" and the only thing that came up were threads about Spirit airline so if this has been posted.. Oh well.
Anyway.. Here is the story.

Anyway.. Here is the story.

WALPOLE, Mass. -- The decorations are out and Halloween is two weeks away, but there's controversy stirring at a school in Massachusetts.
CBS Boston reports Boyden Elementary School will not have its annual Halloween costume parade this year.
"I think it's a lot of political correctness," a Walpole woman said. "I think it's a shame because Halloween is the funnest day of the year -- next to Christmas -- for children."
The school's principal issued a letter to parents that reads in part: "The costume parade is out of our ordinary routine and can be difficult for many students. Also, the parade is not inclusive of all the students and it is our goal each and every day to ensure all student's individual differences are respected."
On Friday, the school will have a Halloween party after school hours. But the school says Halloween itself will be a "black and orange" spirit day.

Spirit Day? Being a white ghost in today's political climate isn't what it used to be.

I don't know if it started in the South, but it definitely can't be blamed on just the yankees.
I can only remember back to high school, but I remember the protestant people didn't celebrate halloween and of course every year people would ask them all about it and they would say it was the celebration of the devil, etc, etc.
The same thing went for the people who attended the local non-denom church. Some of them were actually "proactive" about trying to "educate" people on Halloween. Baptist are not big on halloween either.

This from pretty much the center of American Halloween tradition in the northeast. WTF

I live in Georgia and Halloween isn't recognized/allowed in public schools here.

I just don't get the big deal. Kids dress up in costumes, they go trick or treating.. Adults have costume parties.. People decorate for it because it is suppose to be fun.. It's a time when people watch scary movies and people try to scare others, etc, etc. If someone doesn't agree with it for whatever reason, that's fine. Stay inside.. whatever... But this whole thing of having to change the name of the day and all the other bullshite is out of hand.
When will people start to say "enough is enough! We are not going to change everything in life because it offends someone".
In life, there are times when people will say things and do things you don't like. It only becomes an issue if you make it an issue.

So a parade isn't inclusive, but an after-school party is still fine? What am I missing here?

So let’s disregard your thread title and explain what this story is really about.
The school is still going to celebrate Halloween with a party, but they cut out the costume parade because there are some underprivileged kids that possibly can’t afford a good costume.
They aren’t replacing Halloween with an Orange and Black spirit day. They are saying that BESIDES Halloween, there will also be a school spirit day that happens to have orange and black as the theme.
Again, I presume it’s for the underprivileged kids that can afford black and orange clothes but maybe not a costume.
