You can't even get a FFL unless you are a dealer. If I want to get an FFL I have to prove to the federal government that I am in the business of buying and selling firearms... a regular gun owner/collector cannot get an FFL.
My dad got an FFL for the purchase of two full autos. We are collectors only.
I guess I was wrong about it being necessary though. Maybe it varies state to state. My dad got it purely for the purchase of the automatics.

Benefit is guns are loud as heck and it makes shooting them at game easier on your ears. So hearing loss is #1.
Hard to wear ear protection when hunting.
Also, when hunting it can reduce stress on other animals in area as it doesn’t blast the entire woods with a crack when shooting.
Makes gun ranges more quiet.

Why are people hung up on the luggage situation? Do y'all realize how many trade shows, conventions, sales seminars, and events like that there are in Vegas? I imagine hotels see people with way more than 6 or 7 bags check in daily. And if he's been there a week and brought up one or two at a time, I don't see how anyone would've or should've expected anything.

I'm not questioning the silencer discussion. But back to the semantics of the shooter's position in relation to the stage. That seems really far judging by the google map screenshot mikelbr posted. 200+ yards?
Its actually between 350-400 yards. Not exactly an easy shot even into a crowd that large.

News was saying 1000 all morning. That's a long fricking way for a 5.56. A 5.56 sighted in at 100 yards would drop 57.5ft at 1000. A 7.62 would drop 83ft
Idk if the 1000 is accurate. That's just what they were saying

I think he used a bump fire stock.
Seems like that would be the easiest route to get as close to "automatic" as possible. I can't believe these things are legal.

Not to mention some trade shows do revolve around weapons. Not sure but I don't believe most hotels are gun free zones and the trade show operators for weapons based shows naturally will have a good bit of weaponry with them.

brother is heading to work at the Mandalay right.
Will you let us know what he sees or hears.

They said the smoke from all of the rounds set off the smoke detector in his room. Those fire alarm systems are addressable so they would be able to tell exactly which smoke detector went off.

That drop is moot if you're just shooting into a mass of people.

You can make them out of anything. Including wood.
If you if "ban" something, people come up with 1,000 ways to get around it.

this. i worked in industrial cybersecurity and we regularly had 6-8 rolling hard cases of gear

Yeah that was definitely full auto.
I disagree. I posted a few pages back that there was a video from the ground right outside of the hotel. The rate of fire was not full auto, more like a Slide or "bump" fire sstock.

Take into consideration where he was shooting from

Where are your units?
Talking about feet or yards/meters here?
The distance from the corner of the hotel to the concert area is in the neighborhood of 1200 feet.
If they're saying 1000yds on the news, they are way off.
Edit: On the 32nd floor, he's at a minimum of 350ft off the ground (just my rough guess).

We aren't going to be able to stop everything. The crates and such for trade shows are numerous. The job I was referring to earlier for my brother is as a foreman setting up these shows at MB. Barring searching every bag, anyone can plan to do this. I am guessing he broke this window yo fire from. I know ceasars has a special glass in their suites so someone can't commit suicide. Not sure about the rest of the rooms. My info is very dated at this point.
