I also wouldn't doubt he freaked, and when the security guard knocked on the room or whatever he killed himself right there? Then the police were just being safe and making sure there were no bombs or anything when there was no more shooting going on.

Early analysis of motives are almost always speculative and prejudicial.
For example, if a white guy shoots a black guy, it can be assumed it's racial. May have acutally nothing to do with it. Basis of the motive assumption is on past events of others.
In this case, it is a 64 year old retired accountant with no military background. There just isn't much of a prior history of this type of perpetrator to formulate a motive.
Initially thinking, the closest I can come up with is Unabomber. But he had written manifestoes, etc.

I think when the shootimg stops it's only because the security guard caught his attention and he knew it was ending soon so he killed himself or like you said maybe the guard wounded or killed him. Just my opinion though.
