Seems likely he didn't know it was just a lone security guard investigating a smoke alarm and thought it was the Calvary coming to take him out and ended it then.

I think that big pile is people still taking cover. On the left hand side, there appears to be a guy with his hand up to his ear, perhaps on his cell?

at 3:45, you can see the 2 broken windows in the shooter's room. It's hard to see and you have to pause it just right to see it.
