Archaeologists in Peru have unearthed what is believed to be the largest single mass child sacrifice in history. The bodies of 227 victims, aged between five and 14, were found near the coastal town of Huanchaco, north of Peru's capital Lima.

The children were believed to have been sacrificed over 500 years ago. The discovery comes barely a year after 200 child victims of human sacrifice were found at two other sites in the country.

Archaeologists told AFP news agency that some of the bodies in this latest collection still had hair and skin when they were dug up.

How do they know it was a child sacrifice ritual and not a burial site for children that succumbed to illness?

Taking a wild guess that the site in question belonged to a group of Indians known for human sacrifice.

That kind of shite was rampant across Central America and South America.

I don’t know if the Incans themselves did sacrifices but the Mayans and Aztecs sure as frick did.

I do find it ironic that today Indian culture is always portrayed as noble, wise, and “in tune with nature”. The truth of the matter is far more complicated. Indian culture was varied from region to region and tribe to tribe. And they practiced things like slavery, torture, human sacrifice, wars of conquest, and downright savage behavior toward their neighbors, including women and children.

I don't know about this one

but in the other cases in the same region/time, the chests were cut open and the kids had red paint on the faces

they were also all facing the same direction

Ever listened to Cortez The Killer by Neil Young?

Great song but it talks up how peaceful and in tune with the Earth that Montezuma and the Aztecs were, even as they mention human sacrifices, before Cortez overthrew him.
