My wife and I were talking, and I told her that she spends way more of our money than I do. Long story short, I was boasting and told her that if I were single I could make a budget that would allow me a house, and still save on 35k a year. I honestly think I can. Do yall believe you could.

Also, she said yea but you wouldn't be able to have any "fun" money and I told her that I could have $300 a month for play money. She is terrible with money so I feel she thinks you must make 140k plus as a household to live comfortable.

Your wife is right.

I'm single, and I live paycheck to paycheck on way more than that. I'd have to make major changes if I were to consider 35K per year.

You must live very boring lives if you can do this easily.

And 75 bucks a week doesn't sound like much "fun money" unless drinking Coors at home and eating value burgers is fun.

But good luck being a guy trying to date with that salary

No shite.

Maybe it's just my lack of frugality, but I can't imagine living on less than 35K in a major city. Maybe in Bumfrick, but a city I don't find living on that salary to be feasible for a comfortable quality of life.

What kind of world do you guys live in where this seems even remotely undoable?

Ummm, a major city where I don't want to have to pay rent in an area where getting in a shootout is a distinct possibility. You must have never moved if you find this a laughing notion.

Imagine this: me going to Old Town Scottsdale on a Saturday Night, talking to a few ladies, and one asks about my salary.

Drunk, I respond 35k.

I don't even wanna imagine the reaction I'd get

You probably couldn't afford to go out in the first place.

What about those $30,000 Dallas millionaires the OT used to talk about all the time? Seems like they can pull women...

People go out in college on a lot less than $35k.

I rent a decent house with 2 roommates, I make about 30k a year, and I have enough money to buy almost anything I want.

Well I'm guessing 35k a year would be about 2k a month estimate.

$750 house note (small house remember your by yourself)
$80 electricity
$50 for live stream tv
$200 savings
$300 play money
$200 miscellaneous bills

And yo still have plenty money left over for food and gas.

$750/mo for a house note? Where? Does this include insurance and taxes?
How about money for maintaining the house/condo? Does nothing break, ever? Yard maintenance? Condo fees or HOA fees?
$200 "misc bills" will get you cell phone, water, sewer, garbage, and plus misc bills. Maybe.

I couldn't help but notice that you left out transportation costs.
Not everyone's parents pay for their vehicles.
$200 savings = gas money.
$300 play money = car note.
Oh, but you still have to pay for auto insurance, maintenance (tires, oil, brakes, etc) and incidentals and when shite breaks.

As for your "plenty of money left over for food and gas", you'll see all that food and extra shite you buy adds up quick. A single guy will spend well over $300 on food unless he's eating shite every day. Then there's clothes, cleaning products, hygiene, more incidentals, household goods, electronics, etc.

There goes your whole budget and even though you still haven't paid for medical copays, dental cleanings, or student loans, you still are too broke to take a vacation or to buy anything nice.

I make $140K by myself and barely squeak by

However, I could live off $35K take home a year. Sounds like your wife has a spending problem. You should be concerned.
