That's nice, but nowhere close to the crowds at some of the Nola parades.
That pic is from Rex (kern's site). I was showing the openness of the front and the reasoning for it. Now that I look closer, it has barricades as well.

Could you imagine walking between the tandem floats in a crowd like this? Who would volunteer to do that?
No. But that is why I think barricades in those areas would be helpful. frick being in that crowd either way.
And to correct what I said earlier... I'm pretty sure the Spanish Town parade paid for our walkers when we had a float in it. It was usually BRPD officers working extra duty. St. Patty's parade requires you to provide volunteers or at least pay someone to do it. This was all several years ago so it could have changed since.

That stretch is barricaded isn’t it?

Nvm, just realized he was talking about the first picture.
Point is, there are portions of these routes where it would be wayyy more dangerous to have walkers than to not have walkers.

The last thing I want to see is a fully barricaded route...Mardi Gras is NOT the Rose Parade and we don't want that sterility...
yeah we want Ronnie going full retard and people getting crushed and riders falling overboard. Plus the ladders. The fn ladders.
And people wonder why NOLA is considered 3rd world PR type city in US.
Rose parade is class and should be the gold standard NOLA parades strive to look like. Instead NOLA has crappy retreaded paper mache floats and truck parades.
If the city really wants to go full 3rd world how about having a Hilux parade after the trucks.
The only real city answer for parade safety are fully barricaded routes with high police presence and enforcement. That and banning public drinking is the only thing that would make NOLA Mardi Gras safe.
You know what you don't see? Drunken a-holes in the street. It is clean af. Floats chaperoned, full barricades. Civilized. This should be Latoya's blueprint to a safer, less embarrassing Mardi Gras in 2021.

There was a Tesla parade during Orpheus. Which was both fitting a cheesy.

Can't some protective wrap around the base of the floats be installed and a like barrier between tandem floats?

1. The Rose Bowl parade starts at 8:00 am
2. The riders don’t throw anything from the floats so there is no reason anyone in the crowd would be even remotely close to the floats.
Like it or not people come to Nola Mardi Gras for the carefree party. What you’re proposing to fundamentally change Mardi Gras because two dipshits got themselves killed, an unbelievably rare occurrence in light of the fact thousands of people attend parades throughout the state and somehow avoid getting run over. No one in Nola or who visits Nola wants to see the Rose Bowl parade. If they wanted to they would just go to the Rose Bowl parade

Aren’t you the autistic guy that’s been on a weird anti Mardi Gras mission for like a week now?

Dumb poster. Dumb post.
The two have one thing in common, being called a parade...that’s it.
You can’t stop people from making dumb decisions that could get them killed. If someone wants to cross a crosswalk while cars are coming you can’t stop them. If they get hit it’s on them, not the city.
Also as was said earlier, in the nearly 40 years since a spectator was killed (by a float) hundreds of millions of people have managed to survive the holiday.
Now if the city really wants to do something address the incidents of the last couple years. Shootings and cars mowing people down. Parades are now a fun free zone and no one can drive to parades. (Sarcasm...obviously)

And remember the other day when you sayin how Mobile has the most family-friendly Mardi Gras because you don't have to worry about gunshots into crowds. So much for that... Even in f'd up in New Orleans, I don't ever recall someone on the float getting shot.
Man shoots ex-wife on an Alabama Mardi Gras float, kills boyfried on parade route
