I had just assumed it would be something that would come up in a screening at some point. Really didn't know. I also forget how free people are with their sexual choices these days. Multiple partners before marriage is extremely common, so the virus remaining latent for months or even decades means it can pop up well into someone's completely monogamous marriage. I got it.

The various HPVs can also transmit from skin-to-skin contact.

Interesting. You're saying not just sexual contact, but even shaking hands for some strains?

There over 100 strains/types of HPV, not all are STDs/genital warts.

How do you think people end up with warts on their hands and whatnot?

True. I understand that warts are typically viral in nature. Just never put two and two together to connect that to HPV. As I said, I really didn’t know. Has never been a concern, so I’ve never read up on it. Appreciate the info though. It’s of interest now since I have kids, one of whom is nearing the age for the vaccine. Should probably have a spin-off thread for opinions on that.

Isn’t it funny how God punishes sinners that star in a show that ruins generations of American women. He must have a sense of humor

It can take years and years for actual cancer to develop.

That's not how HPV works. The majority of it is symptomless for most of your life.

In case anyone is still freaking out about HPV/cancer, a cal berkley professor has essentially proven HPV cannot cause cancer:

Results

To test the prediction of the speciation theory that individual carcinomas have individual clonal karyotypes and phenotypes, we have analyzed here the phenotypes and karyotypes of nine cervical carcinomas. Seven of these contained papilloma virus sequences and two did not. We determined phenotypic individuality and clonality based on the morphology and sociology of carcinoma cells in vitro. Karyotypic individuality and clonality were determined by comparing all chromosomes of 20 karyotypes of carcinomas in three-dimensional arrays. Such arrays list chromosome numbers on the x-axis, chromosome copy numbers on the y-axis and the number of karyotypes arrayed on the z-axis. We found (1) individual clonal karyotypes and phenotypes in all nine carcinomas, but no virus-specific markers, (2) 1-to-1 variations between carcinoma-specific karyotypes and phenotypes, e.g. drug-resistance and cell morphology, (3) proportionality between the copy numbers of chromosomes and the copy numbers of hundreds of over- and under-expressed mRNAs, (4) evidence that tobacco-carcinogens induce cervical carcinomas via aneuploidy, consistent with the speciation theory.

Also, FDA documents have revealed the FDA has known HPV doesn't cause cervical cancer since at least 2003.

But since at least 2003, the FDA has changed its position on the relationship between Human Papilloma Virus and cervical cancer, stating that the HPV strain is "not associated with cervical cancer."

Is this a troll? A shite paper analyzing 9 samples in a shite journal with an impact factor of 1.5 has “proven” this to you despite a metric shite ton of evidence to contrary, including a recent Cochran review concluding the vaccine is effective in preventing cancer? LINK

you link a bull shite website rather than the actual FDA website which states

Some kinds of HPV can also cause cancer of the cervix, vagina, vulva, or anus.

I'm not 100% sure that my line of thinking here is accurate, so interject with facts if I'm wrong, but: HPV is an STD. These two are married. Did they have it when they got married and just not know? Or is one/both fricking around on the side in order to have brought this into their relationship?

Unless you and your SO were virgins when you got married, you most likely have HPV
