It's straight fricking wishcasting. People have been hoping for a housing market crash for years.

My friend’s parents live in the same neighborhood a couple houses down. Of course they are OT poor with only a modest $2 million house and 1 private boat slip.

The house in the OP has 4 private boat slips and a bunch of indoor amenities. Apparently some older widow lady lives there by herself but has staff of course. I imagine it was a family at one time; kids grew up and moved away and husband died.

It’s right on the lake and only about a 20-30 min drive to downtown Chattanooga.

Peyton Manning has a lake house in the same area.

Property tax on a 16.5 million home is only 2300 a month?

That is Realtor.com's website I got it from. I know that the numbers are off. Just look at the monthly payment alone.

See, if I was Jordan, I would have just bought 2 or 3 condos at the top of a residential high rise near the lake and downtown. Knocked out some walls so it's all one place. When it's time to move, put the walls back up and sell it as individual units again.

I've never understood the appeal of gargantuan houses. Paying for location makes sense, but anything over 4000sqft seems excessive.

For a celebrity who can’t go in public without getting mobbed I can see it. Outside of that I completely agree although I’d say 6000 is probably the sweet spot.

I'm surprised the mansion isn't getting a boost from being Jordan's house.

The only way it makes sense is if you plan on living there a long time. If it's not a growing area then it's not going to sell.

What if the folks who built it were worth $10 billion? Then the $40 million is throwaway money. That’s what middle class people don’t understand when they make posts like yours. Would you build that mansion, only to live in it ten years, if it cost $5,000 and you’d only get $2,000 when you sold it? Sure you would. And that’s what they probably did, because $40 million to them is like $5,000 to you.

An old couple is building a gigantic one here in the middle of Indianola, Ms. 3 story, 2 wings on each side of a main house, 5 car garage. Gotta cost several million. In a fricking Ms delta town of 8,000 people where property crime is rampant. Like it’ll ever sell when they’re gone

Why would they care if it sells when they’re gone?

And you would have increased your net worth by 0.001%. Congratulations.

There is a mansion in Suwannee, GA that cost $48 million to build and was on the market forever. Rich people have fricked up tastes, you'd have to find a clone to like all the odd choices they make. White floors, white cabinets, white counters, white everything! And gold inlays. And gold fixtures. And 17 bathrooms for 8 bedrooms.

It sold for less than $9 million.

Stupid fricking Mansion in Georgia

Explain like I'm 5: why do rich people want twice as many bathrooms as bedrooms?

I'm an ignorant peon & don't understand

I’d waste half of every day running up and down those stairs. That three story spiral staircase would quickly become a pain in my arse.

I don’t understand it. And for the record, I was pulling rooms out of the air for illustration, but that ratio is on par.

Horribly staged. Looks very cluttered with cheap furniture and knick knacks. The pink heart ottoman in front of the fireplace is especially atrocious. Pink carpet is a no-go for 99.99% of the population, even if carpet is easily replaceable. This isn’t aspirational staging and decorating; it’s down right prohibitive. It may very well be that the sellers aren’t listening to their realtor from the looks of the pics. At the very least, they should put 1/2 their shite in storage to make the house look better.

Do people not watch HGTV anymore?

Edit: And why is there a portrait of Paula Deen on the wall of the spiral staircase?

David Sale owned car dealerships in NC. Brenda Calfee Sale is the widow of George Calfee who founded a couple of banks in Tennessee.

Now I know there is a lot of money in banks and cars. But $40 million for a fully customized mega mansion on a river bank in TN is something else.
