The big cat that attacked Travis Kauffman in Fort Collins on Feb. 4 was a male, between 4 and 5 months old, based on an examination of the animal's teeth, a necropsy performed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife veterinarians found.

At the time of the attack, it probably weighed between 35 and 40 pounds, the veterinarians found. By the time of the necropsy, the mountain lion's remains were only 24 pounds, because it was partially eaten — most likely by its two surviving siblings, Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokesman Jason Clay said.

What debate? An average Joe isn’t going to last very long versus a full grown one.

A 40 lb cat is a motherfricker.

If house cats were 3x bigger they'd kill us in our sleep

I think at the time the originally story broke everyone had assumed it was a full grown mountain lion. Of course, there have been numerous threads over the years debating whether a human could fight off a mountain lion, wolf, wolverine, etc.

Nah, did you see what that kitty did to him? A full grown would have cleaned house in seconds.

This kinda sucks for this guy. What he did was still impressive, and that thing still very well could've killed him.

But now the last headline in this story will read that he bludgeoned a kitten.

Yeah, but Kauffman looks like a hipster beta pronoun persyn who would get a hernia lifting a toilet seat. I agree that a full grown mountain would have torn him up.

But 45 pounds is bigger than a bobcat. Does this settle the bobcat debate?

That's why we should take them all out now before they grow

Still impressive in my eyes. Anybody that says otherwise hasn't been coon hunting because a 20lb coon would whoop most humans arse in a heart beat so I can't imagine what at mountain lion would do.

Really? I don't remember that part of the original story. Huh. My mistake. Then why run this follow-up?

Poor guy. He'll have to live down the equivalent of submitting a woman now. Like, say, Ronda Rousey.

Yup. I've run across an angry possum before, and I wanted absolutely no part of that fricking thing.

I imagine most of the guys on here could strangle two rabid timberwolves and not spill a drop of their 50 year old scotch so...

This is true. Just putting a house cat into a kennel can be a grudge match if the cat really doesn't want to cooperate.
