If the FBI says there is nothing there, then there is nothing there. It's the FBI. We all trust the FBI, right?

Can anyone explain if the gold was originally for the Union and was headed to the U.S. mint, would that still make the gold the governments?
Just curious if he has a legit claim or if it is still being considered government property. Regardless, I hope he wins and gets it. Just curious how this works, especially considering it's so old.
from my understanding, it was union (US) gold, so it belongs to the government, so you get nothing from it, beyond a small 1-2 % finders fee and the right to claim that you are who discovered it.
if they say they found nothing, than you get 1% of nothing, and i dont think anyone can ever prove what they really found or didnt find

Thanks for that info! That's exactly what I was wondering.
I can't math but I like money and 1% of 7 tons seems like a good bit of pocket change.

Why on earth would you tell the FBI anything?
That's the strange part. You would think these were very intelligent men to figure where that gold was. I mean they weren't complete idiots but to tell the FBI makes you go WTF?

I,100%, would absolutely never turn over any type of currency or jewels. I don’t care where it came from.
That’s mine now

I mean, just think. You don't tell the FBI, or ANYfrickINGBODY, and locate where the gold is. Dig a hole and verify your findings.
Then you basically have a hoard of gold you can go and get from as you need. Don't go living like someone who has JUST FOUND A HOARD OF GOLD!
But you can incrementally begin to change said gold into fungible assets. Make some investments, hell go to the casino and place some big arse bets. Basically launder the gold in manageable chunks...you have 7 fricking tons of it.
Or you can tell Uncle Sam and get diddly.

Y'all should check out the mind-numbing amounts of gold and silver that various US banks via the Fed stole from countries and people all across the world pre and post WWII, and when finally pressed for their return, said oops and reforged them so that no original markers could be found.

What an idiot. That gold would have been lost in a boating accident so quick no one would ever find it.

Correct order:
1. Locate it
2. Physically get your hands on it
3. Lawyer up
4. Consider telling the government.

He was an idiot for telling them. Our government doesn’t care if we live or die…as long as they get theirs.

His first mistake was telling ANYONE

Pretty sure the Swiss did the same thing, seizing the accounts of Jews rounded up in the Holocaust then demanding a certificate of death to release the r money.

Probably roughly $4 million.

The 'Government' is akin to Artificial Intelligence. Sooner or later it turns on those who created it, for good of 'the whole' as it were.
Keep the Government's gold, but pay the man for his work in recovering it.
