A 54-year-old South Lyon man died Saturday after falling into a chemical vat at Michigan Seamless Tube.
Daniel Hill was found by a co-worker at about 12:20 p.m., fully submerged in sulfuric acid, said South Lyon Fire Chief Robert Vogel.
It was unclear how long Hill was in the vat, in which chemicals were heated to temperatures of 160 degrees.
South Lyon Police Chief Chris Sovik said employees grabbed the man from the vat and took him to a decontamination area as Huron Valley Ambulance medics and South Lyon Fire and Police responded.
Hill was rushed to the University of Michigan Hospital, where he died from his injuries on Saturday night.

seems like a rather unpleasant way to go.

That's my worst nightmare right there.

Hard to imagine he lasted long enough to even make it to the hospital!
Feel sorry for his friends and family as not a pleasant way to go

Not as bad as the dude melted to death at Yosemite.

Between this and falling into a wood chipper, I'm not sure which is worse

Not buying it. They said the same thing about this guy when he fell in a vat of chemicals

Feet first, the wood chipper would be worst. Head first would be quick.
The acid is just unfathomable. At what point do you just swim to the bottom and take a bigass breath/swallow?
Poor soul.

..I'll tell you what's worse than both, dying upside-down, wedged in a cave

This.
Especially if the wood chipper was head first.

Sounds very cartel’ish.

I heard this is the same place where Hoffa had his accident.

Such a sad story.
The HR people are tasked with making the family think they are doing everything they can.
A friend of mine is the HR Director for a huge oil company. One of the workers got literally sawed in half but lived. She was up at the hospital every day and night consoling the family. They didn't even sue b/c the floor manager deemed it as "accidental". Amazing there are still good people like that today.
